So, I'm thinking back to this episode of "Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles", where Cameron finds finds a Terminator hidden in the wall of a building from the 1920s, complete with a Tommy gun & a derby....

And yet, the more PBS (etc) I've watched about the gangster era since I saw that episode, the more I find myself thinking that a Terminator probably would've gone for a 12 gauge or a B-A-R...

Velcro darts are for pussies, Clare. How on God's blue earth is he going to put his eye out playing regular darts? (Sorry, I had to say it somewhere.)

The trouble of working with my father is he's about twenty IQ points smarter than me, he had a 20-year career of running mind games on other very smart people (and doing it very, very well), and in an old habits die hard way, he sometimes plays mind games with me almost for his own amusement, like the other day after I failed to resolve this situation with some clients, which he had to fix, he acted like he thought I bungled things, when in actuality he thought I did well and was mostly not being serious with some of the things he said to me afterward, as I just found out, which---didn't see this coming, did ya, Daddio?---now leaves me madder at him now than I was when I thought he was seriously on my case for my supposed mishandling of this entire situation the other day.

OK, not a lot to go on in piecing together my rant here, but trust me, the man is on my s**t list today.

I think I need a new job. My godson's mother says I should go to medical school, but I hate doctors. If I went to law school my aunt would overshadow me if I stayed here.

I hear the world of fast food is going places these days.

Maybe it's time to kick back and stay with the kids full time.

De profundis clamavi ad te Domine!

Hope everyone else's day is peachy as Georgia in the fall.

So a couple of years ago, I found a copy of The Stuff on DVD, but I didn't watch it until tonight. To my surprise / amusement, turns out it's a bootleg copy by one "Top Ten New Media Production Limited HKSAR", with Chinese on the barebones chapter menu and everything  Smile

I can just tell I'm going to have insomnia tonight. Insomnia is one of those things you face alone, even in a house with four other people in it. I have night terrors a few times a year, a close friend from the '00s had sleep paralysis all his life, and it seems like I know a lot of people with various sleep disorders, but insomnia....insomnia is different and it's a lonely state. It makes time crawl, sends your senses on edge, puts thoughts in your head that don't come any other time: on occasion bleak, macabre thoughts. After a while you begin to hear things, see quick flashes of movement out the corners of your eyes. You get the creeps. Sometimes I toy with the idea that the whole point of insomnia, if it has one, is that it's your brain's way of compelling you to deal with thoughts you resist acknowledging when you're wide awake and everything's going okay. In my case, for some reason, when I have an episode of insomnia, I can't read, the one time in my life I can't. I can't concentrate, I can't be productive. It's a strange, handicapping state. An excess of time, and nothing to fill it with. Even music is unappealing. Since this is nominally a site about movies, you might be thinking, well, watch a movie. Strange thing is, like reading, I can't focus on a movie, though I do sometimes put one on, muted, as background company. When I need a good laugh I put on The Exorcist. (Yes, slanted Beetlejuice reference.)  It's all very puzzling, insomnia, because it's more than just an inability to sleep, it is a disorder in its own right, less a void than a definite state all its own; like shock, if you've ever felt it, is not quite an absence of pain, but a sensation of insensate suffering all its own. Like insomnia, it is disconcerting and unwelcome. It is to mere wakefulness what shock is to pain: a bizarre, grating opposite. If you've never had deep-level insomnia (as contrasted with garden variety sleeplessness) you're lucky. I'm lucky I only have this absolute inability to fall asleep, coupled with a peculiarly active frame of mind, maybe two dozen times a year. But as I started off saying, I can tell this is going to be one of those nights. Sleep well, my friends...

Try some hot schnapps, ER!  TeddyR

I have had the same movie rented for nearly a week, and I haven't watched it because I can't quit writing on my current book! I've written about 40 pages in the last week, and even now, barely able to keep my eyes open, the next paragraph is taking shape in my head!
I would turn it off, but I'm not sure it would come back on . . .

Let your Muse carry you until you can't rationally function, Indy. Like the song Frozen's Elsa sang about her period, "Let It Flow".

Okay, I'll show myself out.

Some days are sunshine, bubblegum chewing days. Other days like Rowdy Roddy Piper, you're all out of bubblegum and you want to kick ass.
