So, George Takei has been out for a while...

If you were ever a dedicated viewer of the original Star Trek series, you'd know Mr. Sulu liked to collect antique weapons...

So in a weird way, I can't help but imagine that JJ Abrams should start depicting Mr. Sulu as a member of The Log Cabin Society...

My three-year-old daughter and I put on our hoodies and took a walk in the beautiful pastel sunrise this morning, the horizon bounded by clouds of orange and pink. We saw six deer along the edge of the lawn, where it meets the forest, and watched a woodpecker up in a tree get barked at by a territorial fox squirrel, ardent foe of our more numerous greys. Our shoes got soaked in the dew, and I got a chance to explain what dew was, and why it happened. She tossed the fetch toy for our venerable Labrador, Chocolate, on good throws getting it all of ten feet. I showed her the pine trees her great-grandma planted here that she got every year as live mini-Christmas trees, most of which have survived and grown tall, and for the hundredth time told her stories about some of those Christmases I remember. All this in twenty life-affirming minutes. Sometimes it's not easy to get up as early as she wants me to, four AM on many days, but as mornings like this show, it's absolutely worth it.
