No review of this movie could say anything without some images from it check it out
Have you ever been to an indian gift shop? They have these big colorful pictures of various Indian deities. this is like a whole movie of that. The closest thing i could compare it to would be the Shaw Brothers "Journey to the West" series. Pretty much every scene is a demonstration of far out lo fi special effects. it would takea month to describe each of the crazy things in this movie. floating heads, flying monkeys, an singing ape with a blue face, a pyschedelic underworld full of dancing girls, a psyclops thing, a lake turns from water to blood. it's beyond over the top.
Unfortunately, it has one problem: the plot is impossible to discern unless you are a hindu, which I am not. It has something to do with Ram and finding Ram and hanuman being eating the Sun or something. While "journey to the West" has a recognizable plot and theme, this is not similarly accesible so it's hard to follow and understand themotivation for the charaters or for watching it other than the amazing images. I fas t forwarded through some of the songs, of which there were many. it actually had a clever sort of Seinfeldian ending where Ram makes a promise and Hanuman makes a prmise and they conflict with each other so no one knows what to do.
So, hard to recommend to the casual movie viewer because the story is difficult to pick up on, but I liked it alot nonetheless.
