That "Nicolas, open the book, Nicolas." thing creeped me out when I was a kid.  You have to admit that the Care Bear Family song was annoying catchy.

And is it just me or is Care Bears society seem rather Orwellian to anyone here?

When I decided I was going to review a bad 80-90s little girl-focused cartoon movie, I had considered the Care Bears or My Little Pony.  Don't know why I went with Rainbow Brite, but it's probably because I remember encountering it that one night when my niece was watching the cursed thing.  That memory is till fresh in my mind as a fledgling adult "WTF?" moment in my younger self.

My wife has an unhealthy obsession with Care Bears.  When they re-released them (from hell) back into the stores a few years ago, she bought a bunch.  The Care Bears movie is on the shelf at home and it frightens me.

my daughter's room is chocked full of carebears, posters, sheets, ect. Its kinda scary... Whenever the cartoon focuses around a party/picnic there is always an immense amount of cupcakes, cookies and sweets..maybe this is what was meant by "don't feed the bears"
And is it just me or is Care Bears society seem rather Orwellian to anyone here?

I don't find it so much Orwellian, but I do keep waiting for some Morlocks to come out from the edge of the forest, invade Care-a-Lot and thus eat some of them...

That song was stuck in my head the moment I clicked the subject line.

Care Bear society may not have been Orwellian, but the 80s really were when it came to trying to shape children's minds.

Be good.
To accomplish real good you need cute little magical bears.
