Moses no longer need fear irradiated mutants or damn dirty apes as the legendary actor and gun fetishist passed away of as-yet-unknown causes. Though I may not have agreed with his NRA stuff, I can't deny my enjoyment of the man's movies, for which I'll choose to remember him for. "Don't trust anyone over 30!"

Damn.

Though I agree that I didn't care for his politics either, he was certainly one of the legendary figures in movies. Out of famous lines in films that I can recall, he has delivered many of them, and with his distinctive style.

He has been absent from films for a while, but hearing of his death really brings to mind just how noted of an actor he was, and makes me long for his films.

Sad news.  At last he is delivered of bitter bondage... always liked HESTON, whose late politics may have tainted an illustrious career for some of us, he was still great.

I'm waiting for George Clooney's statement to the press reiterating that Heston "got what he deserved" because he was head of the NRA.

So long, Chuck.  I hope you find, somewhere in the universe, something better than man.

Heston had been suffering from Alzheimers Disease for several years. Besides his stand on gun rights, he was also a big proponent of Civil Rights for blacks long before it was the politically correct thing to do.

Arguably my all-time favourite action star. He could chew scenery and deliver one-liners with gusto before it might have even become fashionable as nowadays it seems perhaps all too common. Sure he wasn't liked by many for his stand on guns but I respect the man for sticking to his personal beliefs nevertheless. And thanks to Mr. Heston for all those fabulous performances in 3 of my all-time favourite films: The Omega Man, Soylent Green and Planet of the Apes even if he is perhaps best remembered to the masses for Ben-Hur and The Ten Commandments but whatever role he played, he was almost always enjoyable to watch whether it was a small role in In the Mouth of Madness, a supporting role on an episode of SeaQuest DSV or an appearance on the new Outer Limits series, I was always left entertained. R.I.P.

Fanstasy flicks aside, I think I most enjoyed Heston in such roles as Wil Penny, Major Dundee, El Cid and the repellant Cardinal Richelieu in Richard Lester's Musketeer films.  Much more restrained performances, but memorable nonetheless.  God's speed, Chuck.

A great actor! The very first film I ever saw at a theater was PLANET of the APES. From then on,I would always try to watch any film I could if he was in it,regardless of the genre. RIP.

RIP  Bluesad

Fine actor, many memorable roles.  I was just watching Planet of the Apes on tv a few days ago, it is interesting that a science fiction movie not only dealt with racism but also science vs. creationism.

It's a huge shame that his health failed him so in his final years. He was a hell of an actor during his prime.

At least he's not suffering anymore and he's now trading acting notes with all of the other greats who have left us for a better place.

*tasteless "cold, dead hands" reference*

Every year the family sits down over Passover to watch The Ten Commandments and my dad's a Planet of the Apes fan so Heston's been in my memories for a good while now. Like some, I wasn't so hot with his political work later on but when I look at him as an actor he's truly one of the legends.
