I've been researching new films to get, but I have a serious problem paying $30+ for a DVD copy of anything, let alone that some of these have listings for $80-$100. Films like Steel Dawn, or The Guardian (1990), or Rumpelstiltskin (1993) go for far more than the entertainment value they present. For me personally I am collecting them but first and foremost the value I want is in a copy to watch. I have been able to score Australian (I think) region 0 DVDs* and pay a fraction of the cost. Steel Dawn, for instance, was gotten for less than $10...which is about the value that I'd place on its enjoyment. FYI You can score a region 0 copy of The Manitou off ebay for about $10/shipped if anyone is so inclined. A seller has a listing with dozens of them available. Again, this is about what the entertainment value of this film is and not what the price-inflated US region 1 DVD goes for. So I was wondering if any of you have found good ways to snag up professional hardcopies of pricey cult movies on the cheap, whether that be places to get these region 0 discs or some other way that I haven't even considered yet.
*One issue is that I have found that PS3s have had an occasional issue with these region 0, declaring them PAL format and won't read them. I've not had issues with them in other players yet or even consistently in a PS3.
Thx and enjoy Manitou if you end up scoring it as I have, described above.
