another movie

this movie has a single dad and daughter. it starts off with a birthday party then an alien vists her room at night and heals her from cancer? the goverment finds out about this and they want the alien so they capture the young girl so the alien will save her. dont know the ending never saw it had to go to work and missed it. 1995-2001 could be the year or later. thanks again jason
