Part of the problem might be the crappy cap they have her wearing. Makes her look like something from Alien Nation. Kind of strange that the kid playing her daughter appears to have shaved for real, but her vanity didn't quite let her go that far. Other than it being a funny picture of Cameron Diaz, I can't see the news value. Enough actresses have been sufficiently committed to their roles to opt for the real thing when needed that even an actual shave isn't all that shocking anymore. A bald cap is not even as interesting as when she uglied up for Being John Malkovich. It just looks silly in a figurative sense as well as a literal one.

I figure she either didn't shave her head for real b/c she's got a really lumpy skull (maybe from years of falling down in drunken/drugged stupors), or because she wants to take on a serious dramatic role while still showing all of her fans that she hasn't stopped being the vapid tool her few remaining fans fell in love with. It just seems ridiculous that Diaz gets all the attention for a makeup job, when her young costar actually sacrificed to look realistic. Putting the two on camera together just makes Diaz look less than committed to her role.

Twenty years ago, a skin cap would have been a given, but not today, when shaving for a role is relatively common for either gender, to the point where it almost seems like a hip thing to do. Even so, having everybody in caps might even have worked. But having one actress shaved while the "big star" gets to sport a funny-looking piece of latex instead? That makes a bad impression.

She can take on a dramatic role, but Diaz has zero credibility as a serious actress. It's apparent in little things like this.

That about sums up my first impression of that picture.

Although, in Cheeze's post, it kind of looks like she's flirting with Ming the Merciless. "Hi big boy. Like your skull."

Yes and Ming has some mousse for her hair under that skull cap.

I thought that she was jaw dropping gorgoues when she made her film debut in The Mask   back in 1994, but age is not being that kind to her IMO.   Plus, she's stayed way too skinny for the last 8 years or so.

It's too obvious that she's wearing a skull cap. Actors/actresses should just shave their heads bald when the role requires it, such as Jeff Bridges recently in Iron Man.

The only ones (women) I can think of that REALLY did shave their head for a role was;

Demi Moore in GI Jane
and
Natalie Portman in V for Vendetta

I know there are some more but that's all I can think of at the moment.

Persis Khambatta is another one, athough not a great actor. There were a bunch of women in THX1138. Googling around, I've also come up with Judith Light and Emma Thompson for the play Wit, Bai Ling (who had hair down to her butt) for Anna and the King, Virginia Hey for a couple of seasons of Farscape, and some buzz that Halle Berry is going to.

Virginia Hey looks good bald, she looks good blue, she looks good budding. That's one plant I'd pollinate.

Hey is pretty striking in character. Can't say I've ever seen a picture of her bald without the blue makeup, but I imagine she could pull off the look. At the very least, she must have looked better than Cameron 'the Cantaloupe' Diaz.

Almost forgot to add Sigourney Weaver in Alien 3 to the list. And Rosalinda Celentano in The Passion of the Christ. And Annie Burgstede, who did a twofer on TV, shaving it off on-camera in Smallville and showing up bald on CSI the same season.

Actually, it's surprising how many have done this. I'm sure I could add a bunch more to the list. Could probably more than double it by including foreign films.

Nope, a big, puffy skin cap is just too silly-looking for anything as big as a movie.

I'm with Torgo and his comments.  Her face seems to have been mashed up a bit in the last 10 years.
