Once again,I agree with peter/denny.....to remake PLAN 9 makes no sense. It's charm is from it's z budget,Little Rascals-"Let's put on a SHOW!" feel to it. It would be like doing a major motion picture of your son's 2nd grade Thanksgiving play.
Not quite. Supposing your son's second grade Thanksgiving play went well and turned out comparatively to say... "Spider Baby" or "Night of the Living Dead"; Not "high art", but a perfect effort given the experience and the resources, then it's a triumph in itself... Good enough and should probably be left as it is...
Then again, say someone other than William Goldman hypothetically dreams up the plot to "Marathon Man" in 1955 and has the "They Saved Hitler's Brain" crew make it into a film... It ain't gonna turn out too well, but remake it in 1976 with a better script, cast, and direction you've got one of the greatest thrillers I have ever seen! The original would obviously stand on it's own as a cult classic, and the new one could become something brilliant!
Likewise, I don't think "Plan 9" acheived all Ed Wood wanted it to. It was played pretty straight, with a plot consisting of more than "plot for world domination" but due to some bad sets and overacting, it turned into what it is today :P Not a bad thing, at least not to us, but not as it was intended... The remake, unlike the crap "TV sendups" doesn't look to be some play on what the movie has become, but rather on the sci-fi feature it was supposed to be!
