Who-Bob whah now? Never heard of him.
After being a big fan of his newspaper column, I never took to his screen persona. The writing just wasn't as crisp, and I missed the stable of regular redneck characters like Chubb Fricke, Cherry Dilday, Bubba Barclay, Wanda Bodine, and "Ugly-on-a-Stick." I guess the "real" Joe Bob didn't match the image in my mind.
It's too bad his two classic books of drive-in reviews are out of print. You can find some of his later reviews
here. By the end he's stepping out of character far too much; he's more John Bloom than Joe Bob. The best years of the column were 1985-1988.
If you haven't caught Joe Bob in writing, you're in for a treat. He's 10x funnier than the Movie Channel stuff.
