Remakes?

I was somewhat inspired to write this topic after seeing "Grindhouse" (LOVE "Planet Terror"). What movies from the '70s and '80s do you think should be remade (either to introduce them to another generation or just for fun)?

I haven't seen Maximum Overdrive entirely, but I think an updated version would be awesome. Personally, I don't see any need for a scientific reason as the why all vehicles (I'd say it should be limited to those) are suddenly attacking humans, but I think it shouldn't focus on just one select group of people stuck in a truck stop. I think it should focus on people in different settings all over the US. (At least one vehicle should develop a grudge against a specific person - maybe a semi with two trailers crashing through buildings just to get revenge on a couple. SWEET! - to me.) Eventually the horror would end because the vehicles would run out of gas...or somehow, because I'm not a big fan of open-ended movies.

Also, a remake of a killer clown movie would be cool, but I haven't really thought about it too much...

I've always wanted a remake of The Green Slime.  Lots of CGI, oh jeez, I dunno.  Whatever.  Just don't make it into a comedy - it already is.

Definitely. I don't know if it was made for the Sci-Fi Channel, but it might as well have been.

I don't think it's from the 70s or 80s but I'd go with my #3 from this month's remakes posted to the You're in charge of Hollywood, what're the next five blockbuster remakes? thread:

3.  THE TINGLER - Synopsis: When A scientist discovers and captures a creature that lives in every vertebrate and grows visible (in our dimension) when intense emotions "such as fear or sexual arousal" grips its host she discovers far more than she bargained for.  But that's only the beginning.

Like in the original it's a certain pitch of sound that makes the creature flee back to it's original "phased vibrational state" which allows it to coexist with us.  (Think of this as sort of a dark matter critter that’s a parasite on normal folk.)  Lots of room for interesting scenes here, depending on what direction you want to take this, not the least of which might be a fetishistic torture porn route ala Dee Snider's STRANGE LAND.

There's just something about The Tingler that, I feel, would make for a great updated/re-imagined re-make.

Heh, I haven't seen "Plan 9 from Outer Space", but since many people seem to consider it the worst movie ever made, a remake would be very funny, imo.

They should remake Evil Toon although today it might be called Evil CGI.  But with modern technology, they might be able to keep the cartoon on screen longer-rather than have him posesses one of the girls-and off screen.

Neon Maniacs - Could have been a great, brutally scary film. A gang of unkillable monsters, slaying dozens at random and hiding during the day? Instead the monsters stumble around, have 1 or 2 low-ley massacre scenes, and eventually die, or vanish at random. A remake should have more maniac screen time, more character development, more exploitation of the creatures' obsession, and less weird dialogue (I love you... That's why I like you... )

I 2nd CHUD - Not enough CHUD, unsatisfying as hell climax. Should keep the gritty-city feel, but make it much scarier. Plus, show more of the creatures, and add some kind of showdown at the end besides one CHUD invading one home!

Puppet Master - Great film, but could have had some real class if given more character development, nicer angles, creepier pacing, etc... Nuff said really.

Alone in the Dark - Yes, there is a flim called Alone in the Dark from the 80s, concerning 4 psychos who escape from an automated asylum during a power-outage and terrorize their hated new-doctor's family. I know the director wanted a more cerebral horror film, but IMO he greatly sacrificed suspense for half-baked plot development. A remake should either up the suspense, and even throw in a police procedural angle, or, go the opposite direction, and make it toally over-the-top splatstick (I like the former more, as the latter pretty much goes against the very reason the film was made, though the latter would be funny as crap ). At the same time, they should deeper explore the psychoses of the antagonists, especially why each one wants to kill the doctor (We have just some bandwagon thing in the original)

House - Nice flick and would be hard to duplicate the chemistry put forth by the original main cast, but I thought House for all that's good about it could have been better. It suffered from a lack of rising action. Really they should have dropped the SandWitch part before it's third return (Or waited a while until they brought it back up), and introduced more different conflicts in it's place. Introduced more monsters or dimensions, developed the relationship between Roger and his friends, etc... And finally, KEEP THE PUPPETRY! I would like to see a remake, but if that would mean padding the thing with suck-poor CGI, then I would be ticked off!

The Wolfman and The Creature from The Black Lagoon, face it they're pretty hokey by todays standards. They both need better make up, camera angles, fx, and gore.

I was thinking Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things-- I hear they already are. But I think they should have the Jackass/Bam/Wildboys crews involved. Brandon DiCamillio should be the Alan character. With that cast, the jokes and gags would actually be funny.
