Am I the only one who is completely unimpressed by this film? The book is perhaps one of my favorite Stephen King stories and this was a brutal disappointment. Sure the performances were good and it had some effective moments (The initial appearance of Zelda) but I have a few complaints about this film:
1. The Script- The story is rushed and to many things that made the book effective were removed (i.e. Jud's original motivation for helping Louis and the more fleshed out demons) and this script was written by king himself! Of course then again he wrote the script for Maximum Overdrive a.k.a Maximum Missed Potential.
2. Victor Pascow- He shows up too many times and contributes next to nothing and when ever he was on screen it was like "An American Werewolf in London" minus everything that made that film great.
3. The Cash-in Factor- I honestly think the soul reason this was made was to cash in on "Child's Play". I mean in the scene were Louis is fighting the possessed Gage take out the living dead baby and replace him with Chucky and there's no difference.
So, that's why I don't hold this film in high regard. I hope the remake is better (unless Platinum Dunes gets a hold of it) but in the end I think Zack Handlen of "The Duck Speaks summed it up best:
The novel is about death, and the horrors that it brings into our lives, and how even with those horrors, it is still better to make whatever uneasy peace we can with it. The movie is an excuse to show a dead kid waving a knife around.
