Just wondering if anyone else participates in distributed computing projects. I've just crossed the one-year mark for the runtime I've donated to IBM's World Community Grid. I joined up in the summer, having recently built a new quad-core machine that I wanted to use more fully. I now have three of my computers crunching numbers for humanitarian research 24/7. For those who don't know, WCG sends packages of work, my computers do it in the background and send it back. It's like volunteering without having to do anything. AIDS research, cancer research, dengue drugs, proteome mapping.
And there are many other projects out there, in not just medicine, but in physics, astronomy, meteorology, mathematics, etc.
Anybody else on here do this? I highly recommend it.
