The sleep of reasoner breeds monsters. (sic)

« Reply #2175 on: September 24, 2019, 11:49:47 AM »

firstly i'm sorry to hear that your dog died i'm not an animal person but we had a horse that we had to put down way back i think it was in (2000) ? she had bad

intestines sadly. so we were forced to put her down. like i said i'm not really much of an animal person but we had that horse since i was baby and i do miss her too. but i went outside and said goodbye to her the night before. anyways so i get it and i hope that book helped or another book, the secret is don't listen to music you know that will depress the living hell out of you.  look for more upbeat music and that might help ya a bit at least, anyways as for books

i've been no joke reading Castle Roogna by Piers Anthony, i wish i was making this up i belong to a stephen King fan site of sorts and looking at old posts of mine i started that feb of last year!  and since than i've picked it up a number of times and read more of it, but last night i picked it up and i only had 3 chapters left well i read 2 chapters of it and now i'm gonna finally finish it tonight.

now you may wonder is the book that bad? the answer is no it isn't if you enjoy him as an author like i do this is actually my i think 3rd time reading it and the reason is i started other books and this you may think i'm weird on this but that's okay because i myself think it's weird as well, as long as i remember when i want to read a book i have to be in the mood for it, if i'm in the mood for a horror novel it has to be am i in the mood for a king novel? if so what era am i in the mood for? what i do i can pick 30 books up and when one grips me if i start to read it that's the one i read and the same goes for music as well and movies, tv shows etc.. i'm weird like that i guess lol someone posted an old interview on you tube of Piers Anthony and the guy RARELY if ever gives them and he hasn't really giving one in a long time cause in recent years his wife has been ill so he's 85 now so he spends his time taking care of her and the chores around the house and writing as well.

how i do i know? well on his website he does a newsletter of sorts where he talks about his life and so on and tells his fans about it. so when i saw someone post it i nearly fell out of my chair, the video is apparently from (1990) so as you can see it's an old one i may start the next Xanth book tonight i dunno just yet.

I read most of the Xanth series (that existed to that point) in ninth grade and remember liking them a lot, including Castle Roogna. I still think I should give a couple a re-read someday, or encourage my daughter to look into them.

apparently for some they haven't aged well and on how style of writing isn't for everyone i didn't grow up reading him like many seem to but if you ever get around to re-reading if you find the time etc...  i hope at your age you can still enjoy them as i still do well i have since finished Castle Roogna  i forget what nite it was i think Tuesday night i think it was. or was it Monday? i forget anymore anyways, i have since started book #4 Centaur Aisle and oldie from (1981) i'm only on chapter 3 i  believe. it's pretty good so far but than honestly for the ones i have read i've enjoyed them all but some more than others i'm not gonna lie about that.

Based on the only Piers Anthony book I've ever read and the amount of rape scenes in it, I'd have to say it sounds entirely normal and possibly even appropriate for one of his books. Maybe the others are different though. I don't remember the book title but I think it was one in a series about the tyrant of Jupiter, possibly the start of the series?

it sounds like you may have read one of this Bio of a Space Tryant series there is i think 5 of them?  with that one i really do get why that would turn him off you, i never did finish the 1st book as it's not that good from what i read. his Xanth Series is Fantasy, he's one of those authors i think that's an Aquired Taste, sorry for my crappy spelling lol.  he writes well he's different than most authors i guess you could say,  i don't take his books Seriously like many seem to nor do i give any thought of the content that he puts in them either,

if  i thought that than i would have stopped reading Stephen King after the book IT cause many seem to say he's a Pedophile cause of the child orgy in the book even though he easily easily could have thought of another way to handle that section rather than have them have sex with each other but oh well i guess.

you should see the videos on you tube that has people really lay into his books and wonder why they even read him at all. i haven't read all his work to be honest, but given that he's got one hell of an imagination and weather that is a good or bad thing it really depends on the book i guess. i can see Certain books turn off a new reader or a long time reader than who goes to read a  certain one and Bio of  A Space Tryant is one series i can see do that to and though i've never read Firefly that one has a video on you tube for like 20 minutes on how much the you tuber hates that book.

but i enjoy his books and yes he's done some bad ones too like any author. Xanth books are fun to read and they are i think harmless books now i dunno if i would give my 8 year old nephew to read them i'd give it a couple more years when he's a bit older to be honest. but they aren't dirty like certain books he's done. Porncopia and the Magic Fart come to mind. yes i said that right that is a name of one of his books,  those are the books that are made for adults only.

i haven't read those either nor do i own them either. the 1st one in fact came out in (1989) and Originally it was on the shelf than kids would get it and so the only way to get it was to ask for it from behind the counter and that makes sense to me. much like those porno Atari games were behind the counter in the early 80's you had to show ID i believe for those and prolly the books as well.

i don't own those games or an Atari i'm only 41 so i am too young to have bought those when they came out anyways. but sorry for the rambling and i hope this makes some kind of sense. lol

Reading it. I haven't counted how many of them I've seen, it's probably close to half. I would have been fine with dying before seeing a good number of the ones on the list.

I do get what you are saying. It would be a boring world if everyone enjoyed the same things. I have read that Stephen King was doing a lot of coke when he wrote 'It'. Never read the whole novel myself (I have read the start) myself and the first I heard of the kids having the orgy was after the remake came out.

I just finished reading a biography of Henry II of England that did something I did not think possible:
Took one of the most epic lives in European history and made it BORING.  And I read history all the time!
Deeply researched, drowning in detail, and utterly lacking in cohesive narrative.
Read ELEANOR OF AQUITAINE AND THE FOUR KINGS instead!!

i may have said this in the past but i honestly don't remember so my apologies if i have, my grandmother years ago read Hilary Clinton's Bio and she said one of the funniest lines i've ever heard her say. it was the most boring book iv'e ever read, now i've said that about books and i'm sure everyone has but i remember that one cause i've never heard my grandmother say that about any other book.
