Okay, technically, I haven't seen this film.. at least, not all of it. It was one of those films where I was at home, flipping through the channels, and I caught like the last half hour or so of it. Anyway, from what I understand the plot is this: some European scientist guy designs a revolutionary new microchip that terrorists are trying to steal. Fearing the worst, the guy faxes the design to his brother (who's in America), destroys all his copies of the design plays, and then gets killed by said terrorists. Terrorists find out about the plans and head towards brothers house, intended to take the plans. There we meet Stuart, a genius ten year old who, strangely, doesn't wear glasses.
Okay, from what little I actually caught, the terrorists eventually show up and take all the family hostage except young Stuart. Now, here's where the fun begins (at least, of the part I saw), Stuart trips setting up all these traps for the terrorists, and I'm not talking Home Alone "can of paint in the face" type traps. Now, for starters, he ties some wire around the leg of a metal computer car, plugs in the other end of the wire (can't recall all the details) and then spills a bunch of water on the floor, causing one terrorist to get electrocuted when he sits down.
Then, in another kickass scene, he loads up a Super Soaker with LIGHTER FLUID and then sprays it in this terrorists FACE just as he lights a cigar! (Course, the terrorist was standing by a pool at the time, and falls in while on fire, so I dunno if he survived or not.)
During all this I'm making little wisecracks and just laughing at the various scenes (yes, no one was around to hear my witty remarks, but still, I gotta keep in practice.)
Another fun bit, head terrorist finds out his men are being killed by this young boy and his older sister tells him, "Must suck knowing that a ten year old is kicking your ass, huh?"
Finally at the climax, the boy walks in with a gun, and the father is like, "No, son, don't!" and I said, "Yeah, son, you've already killed several of them, let me have a few!"
Anyway, dunno about the first half, but if the last bit is any indication, it sounds like the movie is a great one to get some friends and some beer and have a little party around.
Dunno if it was ever released on DVD (they didn't have it at Netflix), so you might have trouble finding it.
There's also a sequel, Hide and Seek: Playing Dangerous 2, but dunno if that's any good.
Crazily enough, when I first heard about this movie and mentioned it over at an MST3K board, someone pointed me to the website of the film's young star, Mickey LeBeau. I clicked on it and read up a bit, turns out the kid decided a career in film wasn't for him, as there were too many "weird" people in the industry (hope this kid didn't run into Victor Salva).
Dunno if that site is still up, but still movie is working checking out.
Has anyone else seen this?
