The sleep of reasoner breeds monsters. (sic)

10 years after I first watched it, I mean. I saw it last night on IFC and was surprised that it had been ages since I slid this old favorite of mine into the DVD player. My impressions were colored by knowing whose acting careers took off and whose didn't and who went on to do this or that, but IMHO, Trainspotting still holds its own today as a funny, bright, gritty tale that manages to be startlingly likable. It also brought back memories of sitting around watching it with my friends back in the day. It's one of the rare example of a movie blowing the original book it's based on out of the water, as I found Irvine Welsh's novel almost unreadable. For something released in the '90's and so associated with that decade, Trainspotting manages to seem cutting edge. It's a classic and it's still a lot of fun.

Agreed.  I watched it about a month ago and it still holds up.  Actually I thought it was better 9 or 10 years after I watched it the first time.

I've seen this only a few months ago and I really didn't see what all the hype was about. A bunch of junkies trying to get by, , , not much of a story IMO, , and the movie seemed to make light of a very tragic situation, almost made fun of it at times. Not exactly founded in reality the way I see it. .

I still think that the 1st half is much stronger than the 2nd half of the movie, but it is still a great harrowing little flick.
