When I was a kid, I used to make laser sounds when I played with my guns and action figures.
Most of those sounds were taken from the movies I saw.
I still like the sounds of the lasers in Flash Gordon.
Those lasers in that movie look dangerous! Each beam is thick and anywhere from 4-10 feet in length and look like they do some serious damage.
The Hawkman guns, on the other hand, sound terrible. I've ripped farts that sounded similar.

Back in the late 70's-early 80's, this laser sound effect was used quite a bit:
It sounds kind of hokey now, but I loved it as a kid.
Star Trek phasers have had many different sounds over the years.

Personally, I prefer the sound of the TNG phasers. They sounded more lethal.
