When I was a kid, I used to make laser sounds when I played with my guns and action figures.
Most of those sounds were taken from the movies I saw.

I still like the sounds of the lasers in Flash Gordon.
Those lasers in that movie look dangerous!  Each beam is thick and anywhere from 4-10 feet in length and look like they do some serious damage.
The Hawkman guns, on the other hand, sound terrible.  I've ripped farts that sounded similar.   TongueOut

Back in the late 70's-early 80's, this laser sound effect was used quite a bit:

It sounds kind of hokey now, but I loved it as a kid.   Smile

Star Trek phasers have had many different sounds over the years.
The first one sounds like this:

Personally, I prefer the sound of the TNG phasers.  They sounded more lethal.

I was curious to know which laser sound effect you like the best?
It can be from a good or bad movie.  If you can find a video clip, please post it.

I don't have a YouTube example, but I always enjoyed the large laser-cannons that needed to generate power for a few seconds before unleashing the laser beam.  They usually sounded something like this when they were revving up and firing:

Of the phasers, I'm partial to the ones in Star Trek 2, for both the sound and visual effect.

Couldn't find a video of Paul Winfield getting disintegrated. The hand phasers in 2 were good as well.

At about 1:24 in this video a ship starts firing at Firefly, it had the wickedest sounding laser.  Doesn't sound like much on a Youtube video, but on a good surround sound system it was awesome.
