Hypnotic, ain't it?

WWW
« on: January 25, 2009, 11:39:24 AM »

So, after a lot of consideration, I have decided that I am going to get a tattoo.  There's a couple reasons why I decided to get a tattoo, such as marking two important moments in my life (in short, graduation from college and an epiphany that if I don't become more spontaneous in my actions, life will pass me by).  What I'm still deciding is what I'm going to have inked into my skin.

I've narrowed it down a bit.  1950s science fiction is something I've loved my entire life, and will continue to love for the rest of my life.  So what I've decided to get inked into me is an iconic creature from 1950s science fiction.  I just haven't decided which one yet, and was wondering what you folks would consider to be icons of that decade of science fiction.

Some ideas I've had:
The Metaluna Mutant (This Island Earth)
The Id Monster (Forbidden Planet)
Klaatu and Gort (The Day the Earth Stood Still)
The scene where a giant ant first pokes its head over the hillside (Them!)

What would you guys and gals add to the list of icons?

Note: I didn't include Robby the Robot because I think all the fiddly bits in his head would just become a confusing muddle on the tattoo at the scale I'm looking at getting -- 6-8" tall on my right shoulder blade.

The Creature is a great one.

Other's that might make good tattoos (unlike, say, the Blob).  The Ymir:

The aliens from "Invasion of the Saucer Men."

The Rhedosaurus:

The killer traffic cone from "It Conquered the World" is also pretty cool.

And don't forget Gor:

Oh so many. Love this thread so far. Actually I really like the choice of the metaluna Mutant.

But I also like the Invaders From Mars.

I might be hard to do in tattoo form but I love this 50s image too.

I have to agree that in terms of iconography, and VERY representative of the 1950s, nothing tops the original Creature From the Black Lagoon.
