So, this is an interesting article.  It's about a former Miss America (and actor) who decided to get into the porn business, ironic consider most of the people I've heard about in porn want to become real actors, and here's an actress who goes in the other direction.

Anyway, she says she's been receiving creepy treatment since she started her new career...

"These are guys that I’ve known for a long time that are suddenly putting it out there, they think because I have sex on television I must want to do it with them, too. Its really creepy and disturbing, being an adult film star does not automatically put you into the slut category," McCarty said. "Maybe you’d expect that from people you don’t know, but this is coming from guys I considered friends. Weird."

You know, I'm reminded of a quote some male once said to a female, "You don't HAVE male friends, you just have guys you haven't let sleep with you yet."  (Course, personally, I'd change it to, "You don't have 'male friends'.  You have GAY friends, and guys who haven't let sleep with you yet.")

Don't get me wrong, I'm not endorsing treating a woman shabbily just because she's a porn star, but still... I have to wonder what that'd be like to see a female friend of mine suddenly star in a porn film.  Not sure how I'd react...

...the born business...

That must be one weird business. TeddyR

Interesting. She takes it up the ass and in the mouth from guys she doesn't even know, and that's normal, but a male friend having an interest in her is creepy?

I'd say her reality was a bit upside down, but being that she's probably spending a good bit of time in that position anyway, I guess it makes sense.

I think you missed the point. . . First, the idea of "guys she doesn't even know" is a cop-out. The porn business is a VERY tight knit community, she isn't doing anything with anybody she doesn't know, and definitely not with anyone that she doesn't want to. Second, the point you also missed was that her concern wasn't "a male friend having an interest in her", but rather that male friend's assumption that SHE was interested in HIM. It sounds like the guy now looks at her as a lesser human being because of her occupation. Can't say I agree with him.

You know, if you'll do it for money, then you should do it for friendship. She's the one treating her "friends" badly.

It saddens me that there's still some element of trying to make sex something special there, but honestly...she's chosen to make her living portraying herself as a slut.  She must realize that some people are going to believe that.

I do disagree with that (though I do think you, in good part, said that to stir up the conversation, like I did TongueOut).

I don't understand the mindset, but taking a shot in the dark (no pun intended) I've heard that those in the porn business can and do separate business from their personal life (that's probably not all inclusive, but seems to be pretty generalized).

Though her statement "I enjoy acting, and I really like sex, so this was the perfect opportunity to combine two of my passions," does seem to fly in the face of that, I don't see where she should feel obligated to give it up for her friends if she is wanting to maintain her friendships. That seems to change the dynamic of a friendship to nothing more than business; rather like paying for sex with friendship. Is it any longer a friendship when there are expectations to maintain it?

Besides, Munger Man, you fear women.

I guess I'm sort of confused as to how any "acting" is involved in porn.  Faking it?  Yup.  Acting?  In porn?  Has anyone ever seen such a thing?

I think faking it is acting. I doubt those dudes on ER are real doctors. Sex is something you actually do. You fake the reaction to it but not the act itself. I'm pretty sure that bit is real.

That is a good point. She's basically allowing anyone and everyone to have the exact same fantasy of screwing her in numerous ways. That's the whole point of porn. What seems to be upsetting her is that although she is trying to avoid that basic truth, it is coming at her from places she didn't expect - the nice guys she took for granted. She made a choice, and people are looking at her differently for it, even if she managed to convince herself that they wouldn't. I don't really feel all that sorry for her.

I have to admit, from a certain point of view, if sex is business for her, then putting out for friends could be considered the equivalent of a plumber installing a friend's new dishwasher. Then again, I know plumbers get sick of all their friends expecting favours like that.

It could be that she has managed to separate plain old business sex from actual lovemaking, which she wants to save for someone special, but I really find it hard to believe she's that much of a romantic. Assuming it's possible for anyone to do that.

Uh...yeah.

I don't see it as much different than faking it in a Hollywood movie; perhaps the only difference being that the latter lacks penetration and pays better.

Vivid does make some good movies. I've only seen a few of them, and usually edited or cable releases at that. Even at that, some of them can be entertaining.

Yes, the porn industry does put out a lot of crap that if they edited some of it, it would basically leave a 5 second short of someone saying hello and goodbye.

Of course, Hollywood puts out a lot of crap as well. I don't necessarily see much difference between filling a desire to see gunplay and filling a desire to see people having sex. I don't see much difference in the acting when a woman is howling like she's enjoying it, and a man is howling like Rambo while shooting a fake gun (pun intended TongueOut).

Yea, she chose a career in porn, so she owes to to people she knew beforehand to have sex with them. Funny how some people in this thread are part of the demand for porn, yet still speak as if those that provide that supply are lesser human beings because of it. One of these days people are going to grow up and start treating human beings like human beings. Apparently not yet though.

well, you guys know my view on the whole thing...I don't agree with extra-marital sex.

All I was saying is that it's unrealistic for her to spend a good part of her day convincing the world that she's a slut, then go home and have male friends not look at her differently for it.  Especially since from their point of view, she's been doing it with other guys that she might not even like.

but like I said, I find the whole situation to be sad anyway.

What this really boils down to is damn good press copy.

She, and Vivid, needs a story; so she talks about how the guys in her life are looking at her differently now (whether any of that is true or not).

The press has a human interest angle; she and Vivid are doing well advertising her movie for a song.

Her's is not the story of someone trapped in the porn industry, which there are plenty of those stories in this so-called close-knit industry of friends among friends.

This is another career move by which she will profit well. She's had a good career, and has plenty on the horizon, as mentioned in the article. She played this angle well.

I briefly looked at the web site promoting the film and from the clips it kind of looked like the fodder you'd see on the Spice Network back in the  day.  She is a bit milfy though might I say.  Thumbup
