Stephen King hated Kubrick's version of The Shining, so he re-wrote it for tv himself.

I wasn't particularly fond of the mini-series version either.  It had moments, mostly it showed Jack's madness a tad better.  It just lacked scares.  I liked both for different reasons.  "Hated' was harsh, but still.
