I know who HBug is, and don't particularily mind her ava., but I can understand how it might disgust some.

I was going to ask the offending poster to reply to this thread, so we can see the avatar, but never mind. From a previous thread, we've had on this board, the poster must be British.

Looking past the negative, maybe we could suggest a new avatar choice.  My first nomination, keeping with the teeth theme...

It is interesting that when someone has a complaint, they are met with...

Oh, does someones vagina hurt?

... I would say you have the right not to look. I'm surprised you feel you have the right to force someone to change their avatar just because you don't like it. You have the right to ask of course.

...

But you aren't speaking for the board. You're speaking for yourself. And, allegedly, "several members of this forum". Even if that is true, that's not "the board". According to the stats I see up top, there are 1930 members of this forum.

...

But then this whole thread is kind of silly. This is where we need John Cleese to step in and stop it on the grounds of excessive silliness.

Grow up.

I've been asked if my vagina hurts, been told that my request is nothing but trying to force somebody to do something, obviously any such complaint or distaste expressed by anybody is silly, it has been suggested that I am a liar, and I've been told to grow up.

What a wonderful customer service this forum has (and such wonderful customer service reps as well).

Personally, I don't see the big deal. Given the kind of movies most of us watch and enjoy here, and the images from those movies that appear as avatars, somebody thinks that the ultimate in "particularly sick" is... bad teeth?

That's a pretty weak argument.

Hey, I watch movies with wanton nudity as well. I should then be able to post a picture of tits or a vagina (not trying to steal your thunder, Zap TongueOut) as my avatar...right?

Of course not. Not everything we see in movies is appropriate for public display. Things like nudity, by general consensus, is frowned upon. Others may express a distaste for other subjects.

Of course, any expression of distaste with something here....well, is met with 'does your vagina hurt' among other things.

Really makes one feel proud to be a member of this board...huh?

For anybody else reading this, aside from the official and wonderful customer service representatives of the forum, I would like to point out, before it gets lost in this (as officially designated by a BadMovies.org official customer service representative) 'silly thread', that HarlotBug3 (to whom this was written) has done nothing wrong and the distaste with her avatar is just the opinion of a few, and a request to change it.

Please...if anybody else has any any concerns on this forum...feel free to submit them...for no other reason than to be asked if your vagina hurts too.

Graham Chapman was the Pythoner who played the Sergeant that stopped sketches for being excessively silly. Cleese's silliness was the Ministry of Silly Walks. Wink

In all seriousness Menard, if you don't like their avatar, why not PM them? Why is it a trouble ticket? You stated "others" and frankly I've not heard for any "others". Is it a attractive avatar ... no it's not, but it doesn't bother me.

If you want to post a image of your vagina that's fine with me, surely it can't be worse than the teeth.

It is interesting that when someone has a complaint, they are met with...

I'll address the part of this which is aimed at me.

... I would say you have the right not to look.

Yes, I still say that. Why is that "interesting"?

I'm surprised you feel you have the right to force someone to change their avatar just because you don't like it. You have the right to ask of course.

And I still agree with both of those statements. You have the right to complain, and you shouldn't have the expectation that your complaint carries much weight. It is interesting that after protesting you weren't trying to change anybody's mind you should keep going on about this. You said you just wanted to make the request. Haven't you done that? Why is this thread still going?

It's also interesting that despite your protests as a "member of the board", you choose not to be a member of the board but to sign in on guest accounts.

But you aren't speaking for the board. You're speaking for yourself. And, allegedly, "several members of this forum". Even if that is true, that's not "the board". According to the stats I see up top, there are 1930 members of this forum.

And I still agree with that. You started out speaking for yourself. And "several members". But then you purported to speak for the entire board. I submit that you don't speak for the entire board. The only opinion you actually know is your own. And these alleged "several others".

I'm trying to be rational here. Is there something out of line about my responses? Something "interesting"? What, exactly? Why is it "interesting" that I said any of these things?

But then this whole thread is kind of silly. This is where we need John Cleese to step in and stop it on the grounds of excessive silliness.

And I still very heartily agree with this statement. Except that as AnubisVonMojo pointed out, I should have said Graham Chapman. This is indeed a very silly thread.

I've been asked if my vagina hurts, been told that my request is nothing but trying to force somebody to do something, obviously any such complaint or distaste expressed by anybody is silly, it has been suggested that I am a liar, and I've been told to grow up.

Again I can only speak for myself. OK, we'll stipulate that you didn't actually expect your thread to result in anybody changing their avatar, you only wanted to make the request. So haven't you accomplished that, then?

Where did anybody suggest you're a liar? About what?

I did not say "any such complaint of distaste expressed by anybody is silly". I said this thread is silly. It is indeed, and getting sillier. This particular post of yours is extremely silly. It's silly and pointless of me to respond rationally but I'm doing it anyway.

Your posting it as a trouble ticket was also, I'm afraid to say, a silly thing to do.

What a wonderful customer service this forum has (and such wonderful customer service reps as well).

I'm pretty sure that everyone who has responded to you is merely a member of the forum, and made no claim to be a "customer service rep". But then you aren't a customer, are you? Merely a guest.

Anyway, since you said you weren't demanding any action be taken, I'm not sure (a) why you put this in as a trouble ticket and (b) what would constitute "customer service" on something which isn't a request for service.

Personally, I don't see the big deal. Given the kind of movies most of us watch and enjoy here, and the images from those movies that appear as avatars, somebody thinks that the ultimate in "particularly sick" is... bad teeth?

Of course not. Not everything we see in movies is appropriate for public display.

Now that's pretty silly. I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt temporarily and assume you don't really think that response makes sense.

I was actually a little grossed out by the teeth when I saw it first, but I didn’t feel it was my place to say anything, nor do I have the balls to face the criticism if I did mention it.  It’s not really the same as movie gore; it’s more like those gross skin condition pictures from medical books - you have to be prepared and not have a sandwich in your hand to look at them.

I also think at some point I might do something “bad” and I would really prefer that someone contact me personally rather than single me out, but that’s just me and I’m a big baby.

Thanks, Menard for trying to protect the eyes of some of the more delicate viewers.

I'll address the part of this which is aimed at me.

... I would say you have the right not to look.

Yes, I still say that. Why is that "interesting"?

Because this is not a porn forum where anything goes. For the most part, we are open to discuss most anything we want, and post most anything we want within certain limitations. It is a common courtesy to post a 'not safe for work' warning on a thread, link, or video which you may feel is not safe for work, or to post 'this is gross' for something you feel is likewise.

That's, of course, where there is the ability to warn someone. This keeps, IMO, the forum more open to post freely; if you warn someone not to look and they did, and got offended by your post, well they were warned and that's their fault if they looked.

Something on the open forum, such as an avatar or a pic in someone's sig, does not come with a warning.

As such, if someone complains about it, rather than being met with something like 'let me consider it', it is met with 'does your vagina hurt' and 'you have the right not to look'; and might I add by anybody other than the one to whom this thread was addressed.

You have the right not to look is a poor statement and attitude to have.

I'm surprised you feel you have the right to force someone to change their avatar just because you don't like it. You have the right to ask of course.

And I still agree with both of those statements. You have the right to complain, and you shouldn't have the expectation that your complaint carries much weight.

It's also interesting that despite your protests as a "member of the board", you choose not to be a member of the board but to sign in on guest accounts.

Obviously somebody does not have the right to complain here if they are met with statements like 'does your vagina hurt' and 'you have the right not to look' if they do complain about something.

Anybody who may have a complaint has simply been treated to an example of the ridicule and backlash from making one. What a lovely place. Lookingup

You said you just wanted to make the request. Haven't you done that? Why is this thread still going?

1) It has not been responded to by the person to whom it has been addressed
2) Some people to whom it was not addressed have been keeping it going with ridicule and insults
3) It is a valid complaint...get over it

No, I only spoke for several members, not the entire board. And, quite frankly, I can only speak for myself when others are going to likely not reply when they have been shown an example of the backlash they will get for doing so.

So any complaint on this forum is silly?

Any open discussion not approved by you is silly?

This is a thread addressed to another on this board. You carrying on with telling someone they have the right not to look and the right not to complain is what is silly.

I've been asked if my vagina hurts, been told that my request is nothing but trying to force somebody to do something, obviously any such complaint or distaste expressed by anybody is silly, it has been suggested that I am a liar, and I've been told to grow up.

Your posting it as a trouble ticket was also, I'm afraid to say, a silly thing to do.

If you are going to respond rationally, don't keep me in suspense; do it.

Your viewpoint of anything you don't agree with is simply not valid, is pretty narrow.

All you have done is called a complaint silly and proceeded to provide an example of what someone can expect from this forum if they are to complain about something.

If you are concerned that this thread keeps going...then stop replying to it.

I put this as a trouble ticket as it was something which concerned the board. Not only was it addressed to a member of the board, but a complaint should be open to discussion from other members of the board.

As has been proven, apparently complaints will be met with 'does your vagina hurt' and 'you have the right not to look'.

If you don't like the term 'customer service', then I'll call the three of you the official complaint department.

Personally, I don't see the big deal. Given the kind of movies most of us watch and enjoy here, and the images from those movies that appear as avatars, somebody thinks that the ultimate in "particularly sick" is... bad teeth?

That's a pretty weak argument.

It's not an argument. It's an opinion. My opinion is that I personally don't see the big deal with bad teeth.

If you prefer to call it an opinion, fine. I'll be happy to call it that just for you too. Wink

Hey, I watch movies with wanton nudity as well. I should then be able to post a picture of tits or a vagina (not trying to steal your thunder, Zap TongueOut) as my avatar...right?
Of course not. Not everything we see in movies is appropriate for public display.

Now that's pretty silly. I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt temporarily and assume you don't really think that response makes sense.

Once again, something goes outside of your narrow perception, and you call it silly.

My response was perfectly appropriate.

You brought up
Quote
Given the kind of movies most of us watch and enjoy here, and the images from those movies that appear as avatars, somebody thinks that the ultimate in "particularly sick" is... bad teeth?

Why is it a silly response?

Just simply because you don't agree with it? So far anything that you have not agreed with in this thread has been 'silly'.

When someone brings up the types of movies we watch as justification for grossing out others, then you should consider what implications that implies. I gave you an example of such an implication, and all you can do is call it 'silly'.

I'm still waiting for you to reply rationally.

Menard posted an opinion and I don't think his initial post was rude at all.   However, I can see how the "several members" comment and the post in appearing in "trouble tickets" sparked negative responses.  Bottom line the avatar, although unpleasant to the eyes, doesn't really violate any TOS I'm aware of so unless Harlot changes it, all those offended will have to get used to it.

As for the insults they're not needed by anyone.  Also, if there is a consensus to move this thread out from the "trouble ticket" board then perhaps we should.  However, right now we should get this conversation under control.  An opinion was expressed, rebuttals were given, Harlotbug has not responded, there's obviously nothing more to add to this other than more gasoline to the flames.

Well, I said I thought it would be pointless and silly to respond and you confirm that. However, I'll just react to one or two little things.

No. Nor did I say this complaint was. I said this thread was silly. It still is, and this pointless argument with me is a large part of it.

Are you able to distinguish between "this thread" and "the post that started this thread"? Unless I'm mistaken, a thread is a sequence of posts, generally (as in this case) by more than one person.

Are you able to distinguish between "this complaint" and "all complaints"? Between "this image" and "all images"?

Nothing more to add except that as an exercise to the reader I ask you to examine the following hypothetical dialog about a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT SUBJECT, totally unrelated to this thread. Just sort of randomly dropped here for philosophical discussion. The puzzle is: can you spot the logic flaw?

Mr. A: I really hate that picture that Ms. C posted.
Mr. B: Why?
Mr. A: It offends me.
Mr. B: You're talking about a picture of a rock?
Mr. A: Yes, but it's from "Pink Flamingos".
Mr. B: Yes, but it's a ROCK!
Mr. A: If you squint at it, it kind of looks vaguely obscene.
Mr. B: IT'S A ROCK! Given the amount of disgusting material and imagery in that movie, how can you object to a picture of a ROCK!???
Mr. A: That's a weak argument. So you're saying it's OK to post anything and everything from "Pink Flamingos"?

And now I really will bow out of this thread.

I'm not going to take sides, but the initial resposes to Menard were somewhat rude.
Personally, I would've posted this thread in the Off Topic section.  Trouble tickets are for problems with the website or forum, not someone's avatar.
Can we get a moderator to move this thread?

As for Harlotbug's avatar, I will say that it is distracting.  I find myself focusing more on how disgusting the avatar is than what Harlotbug has to say.  I can't remember a single memorable thing Harlotbug has ever said, but I always remember the avatar.  It's not for me to judge whether that's a good or bad thing, but if you want my opinion, I say change it.

(by the way, Harlotbug is a guy)

A complaint was made, the poster was insulted and has basically been told that complaints are not welcome on this forum.

So far, the only intelligent thing you have said is that you will bow out of this thread to which you have been a primary contributor of a litany of wanton disregard for anybody's concerns outside of you narrow viewpoint of 'you have the right not to look'.

The continuation of this thread is the manner in which you are complaining, and seem to wanting to pin on me, is entirely your doing. If you want to stop the 'silliness' in this thread, stop posting it.

Let's see if you can keep your promise and stay out of it.

As for posting this in the Trouble Tickets forum, which is for things which concern the board, this is a concern of the board, not an off-topic discussion.

I don't feel that HarlotBug3 should be forced to remove the avatar. A dissenting opinion of it, which finds it to be disgusting, was made with a request to remove it. In my opinion, the decision to keep or remove it lies solely with her.

As has been expressed in this thread by 3 members in particular, expressing a complaint is obviously not welcome here and deserving of insults and ridicule.
