Apparently, AC/DC's song "Highway to Hell" is becoming rather popular at funerals...

AC/DC's Highway to Hell is becoming one of the most requested funeral tunes in Australia.

Ding Dong the Witch is Dead from the Wizard of Oz, and Another One Bites the Dust by Queen are also popular, reports the Daily Telegraph.

Funeral managers at Centennial Park, the largest cemetery and crematorium in Adelaide, said only two hymns still rank among its top 10 most popular funeral songs: Amazing Grace and Abide With Me.

Highway to Hell, which includes the line: "Going down, party time; My friends are gonna be there too", is just outside the top ten, with Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven.

Leading the funeral chart is crooner Frank Sinatra's classic hit My Way followed by Louis Armstrong's version of Wonderful World.

"Some of the more unusual songs we hear actually work very well within the service because they represent the person's character," Centennial Park chief executive Bryan Elliott said.

Among other less conventional choices were Always Look on the Bright Side of Life by Monty Python, Hit the Road Jack, and I'll Sleep When I'm Dead.

When I got to the part that said, "In Australia" I thought, oh, it makes perfect sense now!  :)

Reminds me of a funeral of my wife's cousin. As they were lowering the coffin into the grave, his family set up a boom box with a cassette tape of the song "Freebird" by Lynard Skynard.
Also my wife has told me that when my step-mother dies, I'm not allowed to go to her funeral cause even though it might be played, I plan to go in singing "Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead" at the services.

Reminds me of a funeral my wife performed a few years ago. It was a young guy who crashed up his car, and the family made a mixed CD of his favourite songs for the funeral. Great, until it came time to wheel the casket from the viewing room into the chapel and Thunderstruck came on. My wife and one of the funeral directors (a guy from my old neighbourhood, oddly enough) weren't too sure if it was a good idea, but the owner of the place was perhaps too old to have the same memories of that song, or maybe he was just a little thick. Anyway, the minister, the funeral directors and the casket entered to the strains of "Thunder!.......Thunder!.......Thunder!"

Circus is probably going to request that in his will.

Well, guess it was better than playing Dave Mathew's Band, "Crash Into Me".

At the time, I said at least it wasn't Corey Hart's "Boy in the Box."

Or "Dead Man's Party" by Oingo Boingo. Also "Sucide Is Painless" would also be an "interesting" selection.

When I go, I want 16 crapshooters as my pallbearers, a fifth of Chivas Regal in the hearse, and a dixieland band to play "Who'd a Thunk It?"
