I started a profile page for the site, but really need to flesh it out.  I also need to learn what I am doing; HTML and PHP are no problem, but Facebook's click and do interface is going to take a little learning curve.  Still, I know that I'd hear it if I did not let everyone here know:

You actually broke down and started a Facebook page.  Cool!  I never thought you'd do something like that.

I've had a Facebook account for a while now and check it pretty much every day.
One thing about your page, though...
Instead of being able to add you as a friend, it just says, "Become a fan".
Not sure why it's that way.  Did you set it up differently?

Oh, one more thing.  You might want to avoid all the apps in Facebook.
As your friends list grows, you'll be inundated with app invites.  I get at least 5-10 per day and they drive me nuts!  Fortunately, you can block them if you want to.

I have thought about doing this for my site, I only use Facebook to chat with my wife while she is at work but I thought it would be fun to try out social networking to see what it does to the page hits.

Nope.
I'm not joining Facebook. Hatred

Sorry, folks, Facebook is a Doggett free zone.

I've got this site on MySpace and that's enough for me. Thumbup

The page is a website page, so it is different than a regular Facebook profile.  I had to create a regular profile for me but that's just empty.  Wasn't planning on doing anything with it.

I'm having a problem with pushing Badmovies.org's RSS feed to the Facebook page.  It's making duplicate entries and changing dates.  Buggy.  Besides that, I need to figure out what applications are actually useful for the site.  Doing food fights or scavenger hunts doesn't seem like much good, but there should be some out there that I can use to do something.

The first thing that jumped to mind about Facebook is maybe using it for movie captions.  The post and comment setup seems well suited.

Thanks all, and by all means send some feedback.

Ah, Andrew, you've finally joined the Web 2.0 revolution!  (Or are we up to 2.1 now?  Do I need to upgrade?)  Next thing, you'll be tweeting or twittering or whatever the kids call it these days.

I'm kind of with Dogget.  I won't set up profiles on either Facebook or MySpace, but I do have accounts so I can view other people's profiles.  I'd be interested to see if you find it to be worthwhile promotion for the site in the long run.  It seems time intensive.  But good luck!

Lagomorphs: menace or underutilized resource?

« Reply #10 on: March 22, 2009, 08:10:05 PM »

I finally set up a Facebook account, and I have joined the Badmovies one as a fan. I'm not really all that interested in spending hours every day on there like some do, but enough of my old college friends asked, so I finally gave in. I can see how it could be addicting, but I just don't have that much to say to the world at large.

Eh, facebook is a helpful tool but since I check the site regularly [unless my net is gone] it's probably not critical for me.  BUT publicity is no doubt good so the more the merrier!

Just stay away from the apps [they're useless for the most part] and use it for stalking potential lovers and friends you don't want to talk to directly but may know people you do...

I've become a fan.  I'm the one with the vat of eggs pointing contemptuously at the camera.  Yeah, you're next.
