A good bad movie is like popcorn for the soul!

« on: May 16, 2009, 08:59:28 PM »

Wowsers, this film was bad on SO O O O O O  many levels that I must admit that I really, really liked it.

People are disappearing from a local marsh that has recently been designated as a Federal Wildlife Preserve, causing a great deal of tension between Federal Game Warden Ray and the local Sheriff Scott, complicated by the fact that Ray's Girlfriend Gracie is Scott's ex.  Meanwhile, local chef Ray is sending a poacher into the swamp to shoot wild game to serve in his diner.  The poacher sees and is attacked by a monstrous leech, but no one believes him.   But then more people disappear, and the leeches pop up again, and Ray and Scott get in a fist fight.

This movie is bad, bad, bad!!!  The dialogue is awful - example:  (Gracie to Ray:  "I might let you take me, but I will never let you take me for granted!" )  The poacher's gun is an obvious toy flintlock from some kid's "Daniel Boone" costume, and the leeches look like rather large, textured garbage bags.  It is a fairly clean movie - no nudity, some profanity but not a great deal, and the violence in minimal.

Andrew, I rarely say this, but you really need to turn your remarkable reviewing talents onto this film.  The result would all have us rolling, I bet!

I've noticed that the characters seem to drink way more hot coffee than you'd think they would, living in a hot humid swamp like that, everyone but the town doctor, in almost every scene he's in he has what appears to be a glass of bourbon.

My favorite part was Yvette Vickers.  Not a top rate bad movie in my book but an enjoyable watch.

This was one of the first hoorror movies I ever watched, along with Killer Shews and Giant Gila Monster. As a little kid I only cared about the scenes with the giant leeches. As a pre-teen I became more interested in Ms. Vickers.I think Yvette Vickers was the first bad girl I ever had a crush on.  I'll never forgive the pudgey husband for driving her into the swamp, even if she did deserve it.
