Gotta keep this thread alive...

See?  This is the kind of stuff I mean.  badly drawn, no proportion, no talent.

They're bad, but still give you a good, warm feeling when you see them.  Kind of like going through the ol' Mom and Pop stores where they have the rack of VHS rentals off to one side, kind of bluish-tinted from being in the sunlight too long.  You know?

That's what these make me think of.

Went Googling for old 80s cover art, and this one seemed very familiar.

How lame is it when you redraw the Afghan girl from National Geographic as your cover art?

Haha I've had that VHS for years, and it never dawned on me that they ripped off that National Geographic cover, but they did. Good find Andy  Thumbup

We all know this one:
The boy on the cover isn't even the same boy in the movie.
The boy in the film  doesn't have a treasure troll toy.
The line, "The original boogey man is back" is misleading, as that assumes there only ONE monster, when there are several--
which brings another case; there are no trolls in this movie, certainly none wielding a battle axe.
Finally, if you look closer you'll see the boy is in fact running away from a troll that's painted on a piece of wood--
the light cast on the boy and stairs doesn't seem to effect the troll, which concludes the troll is two dimensional
(you can see this more clearly if you have the actual VHS cover!)

This little masterpiece:

This is a very low-budget, shot-on-video film that I actually rather enjoyed. It is awful, though. For some reason we had this on shelf at the library I work at.

My favorite part about this cover is that the woman's bust is clearly enhanced in the least convincing manner possible.

One other note on the Troll picture.  The troll itself is drawn as if it were leaning forward, or distorted vertically somehow - but this doesn't really make sense with the rest of the cover.

I have to say, this is one of my favorite thread ideas.  It's great.

Love all the ones posted.  I'm not having much luck finding any, and none of my old VHS covers look anywhere NEAR this bad.

It baffles me when the artwork is as bad as some of these.  I have a friend who can draw WAY better than any of this stuff (he did my avatar) and he'd be able to do it for quite cheap...  Probably cost a few hundred dollars for him to do a painting.  Can they really not spare a few hundred bucks for a good cover when mass marketing a VHS rental tape?

Lookit this one, so is this creature underwater, or is half it's head underwater and for some reason bubbles float from its lungs when it exhales?
That blind screen makes wonder what the rest of this creature looks like,
to me it suggests it possibly looks like the Grinch!

Okay here I go again and plug "Nukie", but here is anothere reason why I think it's the worst movie ever made--
Heres the USA VHS cover:

Nothing special but a blatant "E.T." rip-off with the moon in the background and silhouettes.

Here's the French VHS release, released under "Nukie Et Miko" translated :"Nukie and Miko"

Wait a minuet that's the "Mac and Me" VHS cover, Mac's antennae are lopped off, and his ears are trimmed ....

Not only did they rip-off "E.T." they ripped off a rip-off of it!

I want to see Angry Joe Bass!  Both the cover and the name have so many possibilities!

There have been a lot of bad ones in the past, not to mention a lot of bad blurbs.  I remember the VHS copy I had of Son of Godzilla, which had a synopsis on the back written by someone who obviously had the movie on in the background.

But I digress...

Bad VHS covers?

How 'bout Die Hard Dracula?

Death Wish Club

I've never been a big fan of the Rawhead Rex VHS cover, either.

Oh man, so many to choose from. Badi (AKA Turkish E.T.) pretty much speaks for itself:

This is an obvious statement, but those guys behind Nukie and Mac really failed to make their characters seem cute at all - Mac is frightening.
