first of all, look at this
(most of it isn't that awesome)
the cool think about having a record player is that you can go into a thrift store or a garage sale and very cheaply purchase records. Unfortunately collectors have often snatched up the best ones, but the cheesy ones can be fun. That's what this Raquel Welch variety show, special thing reminded me of, finding a Raquel Welch album for like 50 cents or less, bringing it home and listening to it because you are totally bored. and this is easily a full albums worth of material. "California Dreaming" "Sound of Silence" "Age of Aquarius" and other useless cover versions of songs even in 1970 everyone had heard 16 trillion times. They alternate between muzak-y and downright swank, remember this is 1970, when albums were made using sick studio musicians instead of computers. There is a psychedelic breakdown in one of the songs featuring Raquel in an amazing silver banana swimsuit thing. There are also some stinkers, particualrly the long version of "raindrops keep fallin on my head" with Raquel dressed like an Oliver type english boy. The guests are Tom Jones, Bob Hope and john wayne who all act like they had just received a lobotomy. When Raquel joins Jones on stage she doesn't hold the microphone up to her mouth when she sings. If you like stuff like the Brady Bunch variety hour or just want to get your Ron Burgandy on in general check this out! 4/5
