Open Secret- John Ireland vs anti semites.  nice alpha video cheapy

The Lineup- later era noir

Able Edwards- impressive in no small part for making a big looking picture on an really meager budget using green screens and so forth

Heroes for Sale pre code

Wild Boys of the road  "  "

Night nurse "  "

Act of Violence- decent if formulaic noir

Bowery at Midnight- Bela

Ramar of the jungle _tv  cheap but good tv series also alpha video

Elevator Movie - recent indie feature with good pervy/ funny storyline

Steamboat round the bend - corny but good John Ford nostalgia fest

Carbide and Sorrel- excellent german comedy re post ww2 survival

The City of the Dead (1960) - repeat viewing.  Got in the mood for it around Halloween.  Old Christopher Lee movie about witchcraft in a remote New England town.

Although I saw this under the title Horror Hotel it is a great creepy witchcraft film. I would recommend this one highly.

Spider Baby, as I do every year. Still, always bizzarely masterful.  Thumbup

I think the top contenders would have to be Tarantula, Them!, Clerks, and Sorte Shara.

I watched a lot of black and white movies this year, but for the most part they were interesting exercises in early film. None of them were The Passion of Joan of Arc.

The best black and white film I saw this year was Repulsion. Polanski has been in the news this year because somebody finally called him on his bulls**t escape from the law (and yes, he deserves every bad thing that is going to happen to him), but he is still a great filmmaker. Repulsion is a fine film.

I watched a lot of classics this year.  Here are some favorites:

Seven Samurai
Touch of Evil
Casablanca
The Seventh Seal
Harvey
Sunset Boulevard
Gojira

and I still haven't caught the most up-to-date version of Metropolis, gosh darn it!
