Wow . . .. I mean, what WAS this movie? Aside from incredibly, gloriously BAD! SHADOW is just a bizarre little film. It is . . .
- a reincarnated serial killer flick. - a women in prison flick. - a killer mutant baby flick. - a zombie flick. - a Misty Mundae flick.
All rolled into one!
A quick synopsis - in the opening scene, notorious serial killer Shadow (Tony Todd, the creepy black mortician from FINAL DESTINATION) is being executed on 22 counts of murder, mostly the killings of pregnant women. When they send the lethal chemicals coursing into his veins, his body explodes, and his blood sends all the prison's inmantes into a frenzied riot. The guards gun them all down and throw the bodies into a common mass grave. Flash forward 20 years. The prison is now a women's rehabilitation center. New inmate Solitaire is being checked in (played by Carla Greene, who bears a remarkable resemblance to a very young Michelle Obama - I mean, it's scary!) She has to contend with the resident gorilla woman, Mondo, a pregnant cellmate, a frightened little girl prisoner named Crystal (Misty Mundae) who is the sexual plaything of Mondo and the tougher women, a sadistic lesbian guard, and a perky, reform-minded warden . . . and she also has to deal with frightening visions of Shadow and his victims that grow stronger the longer she stays in jail. Finally, she has to deal with a mutant killer baby and a horde of resurrected zombies out to chomp up all the woman-flesh in the prison. All in all, this is an incredibly fun little movie that every bad movie fan should see.
