I bought this DVD-R from Cinema de Bizarre. It is the most pleasant 1970s horror movie surprise I've had in a long time. I really enjoyed this one.
You've probably seen at least one movie based on the Countess Elizabeth (or Erzebeth) Bathory legend. I assure you, this one is the best.
* POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD *
The movie is very atmospheric and has some memorable scenes. There's one interesting sequence where a suspected vampire has a stake driven through his heart. The authorities bring the corpse into a courtroom and have witnesses testify that he was truly a vampire. The judge orders that the vampire's head be cut off and burned and the ashes be scattered in the water.
Other notable scenes include:
* Beautiful young women having their throats slit in the attic. There is a hole in the attic floor positioned above a tub in the room below. The Countess stands in the tub naked and lets the blood dripping from the hole above her splash over her body.
* Women rubbing blood from birds on their breasts to make their breasts firm.
* The Countess cutting a little girl's hand with a piece of glass and smearing the blood on her face.
* Torturers putting a woman's head in a harness, then putting a clamp on her tongue to hold it in place while another guy cuts out her tongue with a knife.
This was directed by Jorge Grau (who also gave us LET SLEEPING CORPSES LIE). As I said, I really enjoyed this one.
