I'M COMING FOR YOU!

« on: June 06, 2010, 08:12:49 AM »

hi
just been out in my garden watching and listening to my birds.I love nothing more than to sit in my garden and observe my birds flying about in my aviary. my obvious question then is this:
Apart from your love of b-movies what are your other hobbies/passions in life?
I also love spending time in our garden.
thanks

I'd like to think that my passion for bad movies has been the fuel behind all of my other passions.

Throughout the '90s, in addition to collecting the sleaziest of Roger Corman, Full Moon & Hammer Horror flicks, My other passions were Motorcycles & collecting music & vintage Playboys.

Then, in the fall of 2000, I discovered the internet, which tied in to all my passions, as well as my idle curiosities, thus, computers became my passion.

I collect, buy, and sell Indian artifacts. It's been a passion of mine since I was 13 years old.  I found my largest point in 10 years Friday!  Wooot!

My second bike was an '85 Virago 1000 Midnight Special. Mean machine, but was always in the shop for one reason or another, mostly electrical problems.

Now-a-days, It's gotta' be something from the '70s, starter crank required.

Still chewwin' on that '75 CB400f, though I really don't have the money, or a decent workspace to do anything serious with it.

I have a number of things I like to do, most of them not terribly proficient at.
Singing I can do.. at least, when I'm 100% over my recent cold.  When the weather improves and I move out of my moldy apartment I will no doubt feel better.

Other than b-movies: the arts (more on the creation side rather than being just an observer), gardening, animals, nature in general, books, and people. I can easily develop short-lived but intense interests in everything else, of course.

Besides bad movies, I play a lot of video games on my PS3, play quite a bit of golf, and I've got a small vegetable garden as well.  I've got two electric guitars sitting right here staring at me, saying "play us, play us!".  I've also got a basement full of weightlifting equipment.  Oh that's right - it's Monday and I'm going to start a new exercise routine today.  Almost forgot about that.

My greatest passion is watching, reading about, and discussing movies (and especially obscure and/or very bad movies).  I also enjoy (in no particular order):

* Comic books.  I was a big Marvel Comics fan when I was a kid and a teenager (and a few DC titles too, but mostly Marvel).  I sold my comics when I was in high school, but through the wonders of local comic stores and eBay, I built up a pretty nice collection of Silver and Bronze Age comics over the past few years (actually, I've bought and sold these issues a few times already . . . I can't make up my mind).  Very recently I got into current comics and I've become very interested in the storylines and characters.

* Board games.  I'm a big fan of boardgamegeek.com and it has led me to buy about 150 games in the past 18 months or so.

* Reading.  I enjoy reading, especially on airplanes and before I go to sleep at night.  I subscribe to the Easton Press's 100 Greatest Books Ever Written (they send me one per month).  I'm currently reading UNCLE TOM'S CABIN.

* Exercise.  I was a gym rat when I was in my 20s and early 30s.  But I got away from it and gained about 60 pounds over a period of years.  Due to some health problems, I started eating healthier at the end of December and working out regularly at the beginning of February.  I've lost 25 pounds so far and feel a lot better.

* Traveling.  I've done quite a bit for business as well as leisure over the years.  My favorite place for relaxation is Brazil.  My favorite place for limitless entertainment is Las Vegas.

* Drawing.  I enjoy sketching with colored pencils.  I have a really nice set of Prismacolor pencils that I bought about a year ago.  Helps me relax.

I play (or try to) Irish traditional music on mandolin and tenor banjo. I sometimes sit in at local pub sessions, where fiddlers, pipers, whistlers, flutists, etc., get together to play jigs, reels, and other mostly non-vocal celtic trad.

I'm also a baseball nut. I actually support my local team (Diamondbacks), as bad as they have been these last two years.

Books. I love to read (and write) and I just amass them.  I'm the person you see rifling through the library's discard pile.   TeddyR  I even took a second job at Borders just to get the employee discount (which may have been a mistake, what with all the corporate BS we have to deal with).

I also love to bake, having my own little shop is kind of my dream/goal in life.  For fun I draw or crochet and I'm a pianist too.

I like to read, garden, travel (tough thats pretty much stopped since kids.), I like to cook and my favorite TV shows are cooking shows and those "How its Made" type TV shows.
My personal favorite things are good coffee and walking...I wish I could live a car free life, but thats not possible right now.  I also like good beer..Stouts, Porters and brown ales mainly, and tracking down interesting beverages.

As is well known, my movie tastes run to high-cheese factor sci-fi and monster films.  I do like classic horror like the Hammer films, and any 50's drive in fare.  I'm not into gore or exploitation at all.

I hear ya. I'm addicted to travel and now with the second baby I'm realizing those days are virtually gone. Ireland is about the only option left for world travel with the kiddies, only because my wife is from there and has family. Going to Italy to two weeks will have to wait a bit.
