This film always snags me into watching it whenever its on TV.  I actually just watched it today.  I'm just wondering if I'm the only one who stops the channel surfing when I come across it.  It is a great movie and I've always enjoyed a tale where different cultures clash, in this case Kevin Costner's character and his Native American friends.  Thoughts on the film?

A good bad movie is like popcorn for the soul!

A VERY glamorized version of the Sioux.  While I recognize that what was done to the Native American tribes was wrong, the fact is that they could be just as brutal to each other as the white man was to them.  Still, it is a well-acted and beautiful film, if overly preachy.

I suffer the same syndrome...if channel surfing and I see it, I generally stop.

I did not like it THAT MUCH when I first saw it.  I think it is a bit long and drawn out, and maybe a bit cliche.  I don't think it's a BAD movie by any stretch, but I do remember thinking it was a bit overhyped.  I'd say it's a 4 of 5 on my personal scale.

This must be the only film that I have ever seen on a Saturday and come out on a Sunday.  Smile Great film, a little preachy as Indy said, but I enjoyed it. The humour here and there didn't hurt either.

One critic in the UK pointed out the fact that Kevin Costner seems to fall over a bit too much in the film (children, wolves, horses, etc) and said that the Sioux should have called him "Falls-On-His-Arse" instead of "Dances-With-Wolves".  TeddyR

Am I the only one who wonders how the white woman who belonged to the tribe had access to hairspray? She annoyed me. Not a bad film. One of Kostner's few good career moments. Overall kind of overrated, IMHO. Did I mention the chick with the teased hair?

I was dragged to this by a girl and while I liked Graham Greene as Kicking Bird I prefer A Man Called Horse in the "White Guy Gets Captured by Indians and Learns to Respect Their Ways" sub-category.  Not just because I thought Dances a tad preachy but because it beat Goodfellas for Best Picture.   Thumbdown
