So now when people make funny comments online (I have seen this a lot in Facebook), someone usually responds with "snort."  Is this the new "LMAO"???  Who invents this stuff?  I'm trying to figure out a way to invent something like this and get royalties every time someone uses it.   TeddyR

I am not familiar with "snort" but then again, I don't do FB.
We only use "rofl" and "lol" at the other forum chat I hang out. If somebody should "snort" I'm going to slap that person with the huge trout command for sure.

I could almost see a FB conversation executed as such:
(something somehow classified as humorous is posted)
User #1: Snort!
User #2: Guffaw!
User #3: Chortle!
Retrorussell: Oy vey, you suck.

We need to just flick through the dictionary and pick a word at random, and see if we can get it to take off.

I remember some comedian talking about when you're British you can pretty much say any word in the right context and people will know what you're talking about:

"Oh man I got so car-parked last night."

I figure the same applies to internet slang.

I prefer onomatopeia that indicate how funny I find something. If I find something mildly amusing, I might go with a "tee hee." If I actually do laugh out loud, I might go with a "BWA HA HA *snort* HA HA HA!"

As for the random word: "How sarcoma was that?" Because nuts to properly using words.

Yeah, half the fun of the English language is that we can pretty much change it as we see fit, and if we get enough people doing it, it becomes part of the language!

'I'm going to sarcoma the crap out of that dinner?'

Heh, I got toast, but these are just actual words, not made up frankenstien-esque words that have become part of the public consciousness.

If we could make up any abbreviated slang-type word, what would it be?  What would it mean?
