These, according to Entertainment Weekly, are the 100 Greatest Characters from the last 20 years.

Considering it's from EW, it's a pretty OK list; some of the ranking is a little questionable (I'd have put Omar Little, Napoleon Dynamite, The Bride and Dr. House higher; also, Glee makes the top 20 and Felicity outranks Beavis & Butthead?)
Other thoughts: As much as I love them, I'm not sure if The Joker, Gollum and Tony Stark ought to count by the list's definition because they were characters that already existed before 1990. 
If I had to pick just one character from SNL, it would NOT have been Mary Katherine Gallagher.
No Royal Tenenbaum?  No Mike, Joel and The 'Bots?  I would've put Shaun (from Shaun of the Dead), Invader Zim, Hugo Stiglitz (from Inglourious Basterds) and Jimmy James or Bill from Newsradio on the the list too, although that's probably just my personal taste speaking more than cultural relevance  Smile

Good call, Doggett, I totally missed Jason Bourne   Cheers

I never liked Friends (was more of a Seinfeld girl myself) but there's no denying it was The Big Thing In TV for quite a while.  But yeah, Rachel doesn't need to be #6

Just thought of another one they missed:  Richard Belzer's Detective Munch, who holds the world record for most recurring character ever (having appeared, as Munch, in Law &  Order, Law & Order SVU, Homicide, The X-Files, The Wire, The Beat, Arrested Development and Sesame Street)

Just like any standard list I see pop up (unless compiled by the fine people on this board), I agree with much less than half of it.  Especially this one...

I don't agree with that list. At all. Tyler Durden should be in the top 10 and a lot of them shouldn't even be in the top 100 IMO

Maybe Jason  Bourne was left off because he predates 1990?  There was a 1988 TV Movie (that was pretty good, btw, and it followed the source material well).  Okay, never mind, they did mention they could have existed before 1990 so long as cultural impact continue after 1990.

Okay, then...why not KING KONG?  Or any of about 60,000,000 other characters than the ones mentioned?  I have never even heard of a good portion of that list.

I obviously am not in EW's target demographic...

Joker exsisted decades before Ledger got the role, so why was he even on the list? 

And frankly, I don't think he was a good character to begin with.
