I saw this on TV a long time ago.  It is an American teen film.  The film starts out normal.  A guy who is sweet but geeky asks a popular girl to a high school dance and she said yes!  He takes her to the dance and while she is away getting fruit punch or something, the big tall jock comes in and harasses the unpopular kid because the jock likes his date or something. anyway the jock is so upset that he breaks the glass on an emergency equipment box and pulls out the ax.  While he slowly brings the ax behind his back to chop this kid up, he says something cliché but stops abruptly and falls to the ground face-first; he accidently swung his ax too far back and now he is dead with an ax to his back.  This is where it gets weird.  For some reason, the unpopular kid bent down and with a repugnant look on his face, he started eating the jock, as if he were obligated.  The girl comes back, screams and a crowd gathers around. The guy brings his face up and all around his mouth is covered in blood and flesh.  He said something like, "it's not what it looks like." And I changed the channel.

I saw this film before I knew English so the diologue is based on my interpretation of the scenes.  The film definitely looked like it was set in the 80's, like some John Hughes movie gone awry.

That sounds a little like The Beast Within.

I believe that this is "My Boyfriend's Back" (1993).
