Got the idea after reading about Swirl Pizza, they apply the sauce in a swirl pattern ON the cheese.

People seem to have issues with sauce on top of cheese, so that's why I made the poll.

Guess I'm in the minority. Depending on the pizza but I usually prefer sauce on top.

Sauce on the bottom, cheese on the top.  I've never had one with sauce on top - seems like it would be kind of messy to eat.

Sauce on the bottom...very light sauce because I hate when pizzas get too tomato-y.

don't like tomato sauce, usually put either pesto or garlic sauce, then cheese, extra, extra, extra cheese and whatever meat I choose.

That's the way I've been getting them lately.

Hopefully one day we can share a pizza during a Lugosi movie!  Thumbup

I like American pizza and I like Italian pizza.

In Italy the crust is superb and they tend to sauce it less, which I like. In general they don't top them as heavy, but it's okay because the crust is just so tasty that it's more like the toppings are just there to enhance it, not be the center attraction. But even that varies between the north and the south.

But I like the American version as well.

It has to be cheese on top.

Along with the peppers, mushrooms, ham, pineapple, pepperonni, tikka chicken, spicey beef...

Okay, I'm hungry.

Feed me.

I prefer cheese on the top than sauce. Living in NYC all my life I have tasted some great pizza like grandmother pizza which is all sauce and spots of cheese, and many other types pizza, still like the original.

Cheese should always be on top. I like everything pasta/dough based to be covered in masses of cheesy goodness.

Here in Germany your average basic pizza is always thin crust, followed by a thin layer of cheese, and then sauce. Popular toppings appear to be either ham or salami.
When ordering ham pizza added small bits of chopped saute mushrooms seems to be standard, same goes for salami though some places sometimes add small bits of chopped pepperoncinis instead of mushrooms.
When asking for extra cheese they will sprinkle some on top, but it is hardly noticeable.

You'll have a hard time finding American style thick crust pizzas with wild and "unusual" toppings oozing with gooey cheese here (cheddar and most popular American cheeses are rare here), unless you go to Pizza Hut.

For exotic pizza varieties its best to seek out local foreign food joints or pizza places in malls. That's where you find stuff like gyros & feta or Mozzarella & Rucola with Balsamico pizza.
