A good bad movie is like popcorn for the soul!

« on: June 21, 2011, 06:24:42 PM »

ER's comment in the Random Thoughts thread got me thinking . . . what WOULD I put on my tombstone if I shuffled off this mortal coil tomorrow?  I've seen some famous ones:

"Pardon Me For Not Getting Up!"
"See, I TOLD You I Was Really Sick!"

and, one of my favorites:

"She burned the Candle at both ends,
It did not last the night.
But O my dears and O! My friends!
It made a lovely light."

But, I guess, if I wrote my epitaph right now, it would read something like this:

Lewis B. Smith
1963-2011
Husband of Patricia
Father of Rachel and Rebecaa
Teacher of Many
Enemy of Ignorance

"He Lived Before He Died"

So what about you?

Funny you should bring this up.
I just ordered a second hand copy of Spoon River.

If I develop a healthier frame of mind in my senior years:

Kurt Vonnegut - Breakfast of Champions

I prefer this, adapted from a Boris Karloff's Thriller! episode:

"GOD GRANTE THAT HE LYE STILLE"

I would like a zombie hand coming up from where I'm buried.

Uh, There's, like, some guy here; Y'Know, like, all dead & everything. Question

Of course, I wouldn't actually be buried there. I'd have my neckid cadaver shot out of a psychedelic canon, through the hole of a twelve foot wide chocolate doughnut with exploding sprinkles, into a swamp or someplace I'd make good fertilizer, while the mourners would be singing Rainy Day Women by Bob Dylan... I always think of myself as a bookish kind of person so how about a quote from Dylan Thomas?

Quote
"Do not go gentle into that good night: rage, rage against the dying of the light."

Or another quote, this time courtesy Christopher George:

Quote
"Welcome to the city of the dead."

Actually, I won't be buried when I die ~ I want to be cremated and my last wish will be to have someone very, very brave 'antique' a certain politician in the face with a handful of my ashes.  Thumbup

Natural Burial (Forest Burial) for me so there won't be any tombstone. But if I had a tombstone it would read

"You gonna do something or just stand there and bleed?"

I've always liked this one.

This one seems to be more geered toward the deceased.  I'd aim mine more at passersby.

Flick James beat me to the pizza remark...which is what I actually thought this thread was about.

I had actually posted once before on my Facebook page what would be an appropriate epitaph for me after looking back at several injuries through my life and thinking what would be an appropriate response:

Damn! That Was Stupid!
