whoa what a weird movie. Very strangebut cool to see David Nivens, Peter sellers, Ursula Andres, Oreson welles and many other really good actors on screen.

the story is realy kookie and so is the last 10 min of th emovie but its really well done, this was directed by John Huston and I have to say this was an amazing little goober flick.

I found out that this is basically what ian flemmings james bond books were actually like. dark silly comedies with clever bits in them. Not the action packed over done dramas we've been seeing since what..1965?

what you guys think about this flick?:)

I tried to watch CASINO ROYALE about 3 or 4 times when I was a kid. It always seemed to be on television late a night and I always fell asleep before it was over. I do remember a few scenes, like David Niven knocking over some bad guys with a bowling ball and Woody Allen escaping from a firing squad or something. I'll probably buy the DVD eventually and finally see the whole movie.

It is a very messy movie (I seem to remember there were several directors involved), and runs a bit too long, but it has a lot of real funny scenes, specially if you are a James Bond fan. My favourite bits are those involving Woody Allen, he is great in this one.

Due to the horrifying nature of this film, no one will be admitted to the theatre.

Actually this is basically what the james bond books are . Weird huh? Course do you think Ian Flemming was serious when he named characters ' p***y galore'?

It might be a mess, and it is too long by half, but, w/  Woody Allen, Val Guest, Ben Hectht, Joseph Heller, Terry Southern, Billy Wilder, and Peter Sellers working uncredited on the script, it has some of the best one-liners one'll ever hear in a James Bond film.
With the "Look of Love" and "The Theme from Casino Royale," it has the best music of any of the James Bond films. (IMHO)
With Peter Sellers, Ursula Andress, David Niven, Orson Welles, Joanna Pettet, Daliah Lavi, Woody Allen, Deborah Kerr, William Holden, Charles Boyer, John Huston, Kurt Kaszner, George Raft,  Jean-Paul Belmondo, Terence Cooper, Barbara Bouchet, Jacqueline Bisset, Ronnie Corbett, Bernard Cribbins, and Geoffrey Bayldon, it has the best cast (IMHO) of all the Bond films. And that does not include the uncredited appearances of Angelica Huston, John Le Mesurier, David McCallum, Stirling Moss, Peter O'Toole, and David Prowse.
And the scene set in the casino has to be one of the best comedic, action sequence in any of the Bond films.
Enjoy the film.

I've been on a James Bond kick these past couple of weeks so I borrowed this one from the library. Actually, when I reserved "Casino Royale" in their computer I thought I was getting the Daniel Craig 007 film by the same title, but this is what showed up, so either I reserved the wrong movie or the out-of-town library it was shipped from screwed up. Either way, I figured I'd never seen it, so I may as well watch it.

... and now I kinda wish I hadn't bothered. Good LORD this movie was utterly random!! I couldn't make heads or tails of it. It was kinda like the makers of the "Batman" TV show teamed up with Mel Brooks and Monty Python to make a James Bond parody...but then forgot to make it funny. Peter Sellers and Woody Allen each have their moments but other than that this flick is confused as hell and often dull as dishwater.

I read some of the film's troubled history on Wikipedia so I understand why it turned out the way it did now, but still ... geez, that's two hours and ten minutes of my life I'm never gonna get back.

...and I STILL haven't seen the Daniel Craig film!!!

Watching this version of "Casino Royale" made my brain hurt... so I wrote a blog entry about it to try and make the pain go away.

I love this movie.  I find it to be extremely funny, especially the part where Bond makes chumpmeat out of the Scotsmen with the heavy ball.

I don't get why so many people are saying the movie makes no sense.  It is quirky (which is part of its charm), but I didn't have any problem following the story.

David Niven made the perfect James Bond in my opinion, and this is actually the only James Bond film that has ever interested me in the least.

Well,if anything,it did have David Prowse as the Frankenstein Monster before HORROR OF FRANKENSTEIN or FRANKENSTEIN AND THE MONSTER FROM HELL.

Yes.  This Bond movie had the Frankenstein monster in it.  Just that fact alone would make this the best Bond movie ever! Smile
