Rev and I made a bet for 1 karma over Best Picture for the Oscars. He bet The Artist would win, and I bet The Help would win. If neither wins, it's a push. This seemed like fun to me.

So, who do you like for winner of this category or that category? Here is a thread where you can state your pick, and somebody can wager against you for karma. It could be a wager that your's will simply NOT win, or that another title will win the category, or whatever. I will try to keep track of wagers with periodic updates if I can.

It's all in good fun and should add a little badmovies.org fun to the Oscar season. Or, nobody will be interested and it will fall flat on it's face.

Anyway, here is what we have so far:

Rev. Powell vs. Flick James: 1 karma, even odds, The Artist vs. The Help for Best Picture. Neither wins, it's a push.

Oh, yes, and both parties have to agree to the wager. I just thought about that. So if somebody says they like Glenn Close for Best Actress, and somebody replies they wager Viola Davis against Glenn Close for 1 karma, push if neither wins, then the other party has to reply that they accept the wager.

I'm going for "The Help".

     I'd have to agree.

Sounds like fun!  I'll go with a 50/50:

"Man or Muppet" for Best Original Song

Any takers?

How bout "Bridesmaids" for Original Screenplay? (a little more of a longshot, but I have a gut feeling)

I already feel guilty about fleecing Flick, so I won't take advantage of you, too.   Wink  Someone else can jump on it.

Yeah, no offense to Flick, but I think you've got that one in the bag!

And, for the record, I definitely don't feel that Bridesmaids DESERVES the win (it was enjoyable, but you know...), but for some reason I feel like it'll get the "see, we like comedies vote".

I think Rev may have the edge with The Artist, but I think it is a wafer thin edge. If I win, however, I'll be happy to accept any and all admiration along with my karma.

And, just so it's in one place, I have two challenges out there for the grabs.  I say:

"Man or Muppet" for Best Song
"Bridesmaids" for Original Screenplay

I ain't touchin' "Man of Muppet." That's a lock. I will, however, wager Midnight in Paris against Bridesmaids. You have a legitimate logic for it, but I think Screenplay will be the only award that Midnight in Paris enjoys. I liked the film, but I don't think it has a chance in any of the other categories it's in. So I think the Academy will throw that bone to Woody.

SO I wager Midnight in Paris against Bridesmaids for 1 karma. If neither wins then it's a push.
