I can relate. I was a picky, narrow minded young b@stard, now I'm an even pickier, even more narrow minded old b@stard.

It's odd that I can remember that the Munsters lived at 1313 Mockingbird Lane but I don't remember where I left my keys.....or what I walked half way across the room to get .

I could always remember trivia better than I could remember what I was supposed to be doing, even in my youth. Turned out to be ADHD, although I can't put all of the blame there.

I think as I get older, I don't feel quite as much embarrassment about people knowing things like that about me. I feel more comfortable just being myself, and more open about some of the things I'd previously thought just made me weird. I'm still a very private person, but there isn't the sort of underlying shame I would have had in my teens or twenties.

Watching a movie past 9:00 PM I find myself waking up sometime 5 times within 20 minutes.  I think I can fall asleep with my eyes open.

A day without aches and pains is a good day indeed.  All those things you did when you were young and indestructible - they're all still there, lurking in the background.  Waiting for age to catch up to you so they can remind you of their presence.

Memory's gone.  I watch dozens of movies, and if it's just one of those average 3/5 things, ask me about it a couple days later and I'll be hard pressed to remember the title.

Is it you changing, or is it just that more and more young women are becoming the sort you never could stand?

I've always felt older than I actually was, mentally. When I was in high school, and even college, I was more mature than my fellow classmates of the same age. I am finding that I have a lot less patience for stuff thats trivial. I just can't bring myself to gossip or chat about unimportant things, or what other people are doing.

I've also noticed that many people around my age are having kids/families. It seems like people just expect you to do that at a point. I don't know if the reeponsibilities of having children are for me.

You know Andy, I honestly don't know for sure. I just think its a priority thing when it comes to younger women.  They seem (trying to avoid blanket statement btw) to care about silly stuff.  Getting married, if they are 5 lbs overweight and most of all being "right" all the time.  It seems older women don't care as much about that.

It may be maturity showing.  Older women may be more secure in themselves: they can allow others to be wrong and not need to comment on it. Not so much not caring as it is acceptance.  Life experience teaches you to conserve your efforts; "choose your battles" and apply your energy to areas where it is most likely to actually have an effect.  That extra five pounds isn't going anywhere any time soon: why draw attention to it by going on about it?   TongueOut

Of course, some just master the passive-aggressive truce. If you can't win, just say that arguing is pointless, then go on being wrong. Of course, that transcends boundaries of age and gender.

I find as I get older, I'm losing some of my cutthroat competitiveness. When it came to business rivalries, politics, community matters, whatever, I used to take things pretty personally, and I could be pretty ruthless when I got my back up. I generally get along with people, but especially back in my newspaper days, I'd have my share of feuds with municipal officials, local businessmen and whatnot. I think I've come to see that most people have good intentions and reasons for the things they do. I might not always agree with them, and I might even openly oppose them, but I can at least understand where they're coming from, and not make them into the bad guy. And if somebody puts a sidewalk where I don't want one, or approves a subdivision where I'd rather not have one, it's not the end of the world.

I'm still working on believing good intentions prevail.  Too often I decide that people are limited and simply find their own limitations insurmountable.  Not their fault at all, but I don't have to play with them if I don't like to.

People that are lazy or do really stupid things at work seem to irritate me more.

I agree with this. I just have little tolerance for that, and co-workers who are grossly dumb or unprofessional at their job are a huge annoyance of mine.
