Nazis from spaaaaaaccceeee!

The general idea of this movie is that in 1945 the Nazis fled Earth and established a base on the dark side of the moon.  Since then they have been building a fleet of flying saucers and space zeppelins so they can eventually return to conquer the Earth.  A NASA moon mission goads the Nazis into beginning their war.

Meanwhile on Earth, the President of the United States is a woman who is obviously based on Sarah Palin.  Also, a black astronaut is captured by the Nazis, injected with a serum that turns him into an albino, and then returned to Earth where he becomes that crazy guy who stands on the street corner screaming that the space Nazis are coming to destroy us all.

In short, the plot is insane.  It's also a fair setup to have some fun, which it does.  What surprised me is the film's satirical tone that certainly takes aim at the Nazis, but also takes time to make fun of the US Government, the United Nations, and the way we (humanity) all tend to not get along so well when we have any difference or think that we can ignore what is fair and just bully our way into getting what we want.

I was expecting something campy, and it is, but the movie reminds me more of "Dr. Stangelove" than "Spaceballs."

isn't that an actual crackpot conspiracy theory? it sounds weirdly familiar... Im sure I read that the Nazi's invented some kind of 'ufo' back in WW2

sounds like a cool film anyway

The Nazis were close.  The built a bell shapped craft that actually defied gavitity for shor periods of time.  I saw on a National Geographic Channel.  The Nazis had some pretty intense inventions.

I remember when the trailer was released the buzz about this movie was insane. Then, when it actually showed up at film festivals and briefly in theaters, nobody was talking about it at all. I assumed that meant the movie turned out to be a real dog. But if Andrew's vouching for it I may have to move it up on my "to see" list.

Most of what I have seen/read/heard its abit of a dog.  Makes me sort of sad if true.   Its an idea that LOOKED way cool. However Andrew gives me hope, I trust his judgement in these things.  If I come across it I'll watch it.

It was trashy, stupid and really ridiculous.  I found it alot of fun.  It was surprisingly well made, despite getting a fair bit of funding from crowdsourcing.

It isn't perfect, but worth a looksee.  Solid 3.5/5 for me.

I will definitely say that you should give it a try.  I enjoyed it more than I expected to, and like I said some of the humor reminded me of "Dr. Strangelove" in pointing out how absurd we treat each other.  It was not carried off with quite the same skill as the Kubrick film and at times left subtle behind, but it really surprised me at how well it did.

Seeing a horde of Nazi flying panzer saucers attacking New York was a lot of fun!  And the blonde German teacher who gets half of her clothes ripped off at the airlock, well she's enjoyable to look at.

Not to mention Udo Kier being a cut-price Führer in a VW Beetle.

I thought this movie was excellent. It had a good comedy streak through it, but played straight enough and with a good use of budget to not make it fall into schlock. Plus, Nazis from space, what a concept. Has anyone seen the Asylum knock off "Nazis from the Centre of the Earth"? (or "Bloodstorm" as it was released in the UK under). It's all the bad things that "Iron Sky" managed to avoid...though it does have a robo-Hitler and that's somewhat redeeming.

I just watched it last night, though I had some problems with the used DVD (skipping).  It is a much meaner film than "Iron Sky," with the skinning of the one character, and then the rape and skinning of the woman.  The robo-Hitler was much more fun, and more in line with the Asylum's normally campy horror.

Now I have to order a new copy of "Nazis from the Center of the Earth" so I have a pristine copy in my collection.  *Sigh*  Damn you robo-Hitler!
