Well, this is not the first time they tried to do something with the original "Casablanca." It has been remade at least three times:

Caboblanco (1980)
Armaan (1981)
Barb Wire (1996)

Plus it was made into an episode of Lux Video Theatre in 1955.

Plus twice being turned into a TV series . . .

Casablanca (1955)
Casablanca (1983)

But, this is the first time I can remember them trying to do a sequel to the original. And I must disagree with the author of the article. I can see no pros to it, as a sequel or another remake.

The only actor that even comes to mind for me as remotely able to pull off the role of Rick is Liam Neeson.

Statham?  Oh please.  It'll be either Channing Tatum or Tom Hardy.  Unless it's straight to dvd, then it'll be either Sean Bean or Val Kilmer.

Honestly this sounds pretty easy to ignore.  As has been pointed out, they've tried this kind of thing before and nobody bothered to even hate-watch.

Cracked has a synopsis of the sequel: http://www.cracked.com/article_19751_6-insane-sequels-that-almost-ruined-classic-movies_p2.html

It doesn't sound like a bad movie, but it also doesn't sound good.  If it was made in the 40's, it would be a mediocre follow up nobody remembers.  Made today...Really who would want it?  It wouldn't impress classic film buffs, critics, nor audiences in general.  What's the point?
