 A freind of mine called me a geek. Because I have tons of horror films-OLD horror films-I collect monster mags,have a stand up plastic Dracula in my living room,that kinda thing. Im a geek. I have Lugosi posters on my living room wall. Mykids are used to it...but other folks...like my nurse-((I have a nurse until my heart works-it works fine-what s**t) think Im weird. Are you a geek? Do You feel outside of others because of your love for movies or comic books? I know I do.
Oh-Ill never change-I like what I like-I have a strong passion for it-I couldnt change if I wante to-I LOVE old horror films,Jack Kirby comics,and Creepy Magazine of old.  I play jazz and punk rock real loud. They think Im weird-they like me-but dont socialize ( did I spell that right...I dont think so....) with me-Im a weirdo.I Dont care if folks think Im weird. OK with me.

Lagomorphs: menace or underutilized resource?

« Reply #1 on: December 28, 2012, 06:40:20 AM »

I don't think you'll find many NON-geeks here. That's part of what draws us to this site: a seemingly unnatural love of movies that most people don't understand (this applies both to the movies and to our love of them). I personally don't feel like I have ever fit in anywhere because, like you, I like what I like and I won't change that to please others. There are very few people I have ever really "clicked" with, and I haven't found a group that I truly feel a part of ever (and I'm nearly 50). People like me (and many on this board, in different ways) don't fit with groups because 1.) We are often loners/introverts, 2.) Socializing is not our strong point, 3.) We have peculiar tastes that are often so specific that we know no one who shares them, and 4.) We're not willing to change those tastes or our passion for our peculiarities.

I'm a geek because I am 48 years old and I:

* Watch, read about, discuss, and love bad movies
* Read comic books
* Play board games
* Am a CPA

However, I try not to act like a geek.  You would never mistake me from one of the guys on THE BIG BANG THEORY.  I'm more of a freewheeling spirit, like Charlie Sheen on TWO AND A HALF MEN (minus all the hot babes . . .)

Well, I bite the heads off live chickens for money, so I guess so.

Real answer? I'm way too geeky for the real world, and not nearly geeky enough for this place. I don't fit in anywhere!

I've been called a geek on occasion due to my unusual ( Lookingup) cultural tastes, but I never really thought of myself as one because I don't like math or science.

Unless I smell bad, people refuse to tell me what they think of me....

On the other hand, for years before I discovered BadMovies.org, I was convinced that I was the only, and I mean THE ONLY person who liked Mad Max...
And people wouldn't even tell me why they hated it, they just thought it was wrong of me to like it...........

Definitely have been called a geek. Yes, it has isolated me especially during my high school years which were awful for me. I was bullied and picked on because I was different, knew a lot about stuff most people don't care about like pro wrestling, comic books, old sci-fi & horror movies and TV shows. Once my bullies tried to humiliate me by wishing "Happy Birthday to 'The Gee'" in the local paper...I thought it was ridiculous to say the word without the K. In many ways, I've come to embrace it as I got older. I like what I like and the hell with what anyone else thinks. Fortunately the Internet allowed me to find many more people who shared a similar love for things than I ever would have thought possible before I discovered it. So grateful for badmovies.org and its ilk.  Thumbup

I'm more apt to call myself a geek before someone else because to me its a badge of honor.  I walk through a place like IKEA and wonder why the hell do people decorate their house so boringly.   Question

Notice now "geek culture" is now cool with the masses?  Zombies, Werewolves, Vampires...heh, these youngsters have a lot to learn.

I've been called a geek for numerous reasons.

1.I was in band

2.I have been really into role-playing games...not those computer ones but the ones that require dice

3.I actually enjoy elevator music and Lawrence Welk

4.I love Harry Potter,Lord of the Rings,Star Trek and Star Wars

5. I enjoy both Marvel and DC comics

6. I adore bad movies....the older the better...actually,my daughter thinks my love of "The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra" automatically qualifies me TeddyR
