A client requested a copy of the documentary
Friendly Touchdown which deals with the Australian national rugby team visiting South Africa in 1963 and I was viewing it yesterday ~ quite a jolly doccie: it starts with the entire Wallaby team singing
Waltzing Mathilda on board the aircraft.
Never been lucky enough to visit Australia but I've always liked that song.
Me, too. I first remember it, when we were studying about Australia, when I was about 11 or 12, and in the 6th grade.
It may be the unofficial national anthem of Australia, but why the Australians never made it their official anthem, I'll never know. Anyway, a great song that packs a huge emotional wallop Australian style.
