What is your favorite decade of horror and why?
'80s definitely.  All the big slasher franchises started then and I love the '80s music and clothes.

What is the most memorable horror films that made an impact on you as a child?
Alien - mom took me to see it in the theater and she fell sleep during it  BounceGiggle

Do you prefer practical special effects, CGI, or both?
Practical but I don't mind CGI if it's not obvious.

What is your favorite classic/gothic horror Icon?
Peter Cushing.

What is your favorite Horror Film Series?
I've got all but one of the Friday the 13th films on DVD so I guess I'll go with them.

What is your least favorite kind of Horror creature, and why?
Werewolves.  I always find them kind of corny.

What is the most memorable horror film you saw at the theater or drive-ins?
Probably go with Alien again.

If you had to choose between Slasher, Supernatural, Fantasy, or Science Fiction Horror- What
I love horror and I love sci-fi, so put the two of them together and I'm in heaven Thumbup

What is your favorite Horror Comedy?
Probably Bride of Chucky.

Which horror film do you ONLY like the first one, but HATE the sequels?
Nightmare on Elm Street.

Generally, What type of horror do you prefer?
Sci-fi horror but since they're pretty rare I end up watching a lot of slashers.

Is there any Remakes that you actually like?
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake with Jessica Biel is a favorite.  Also The Thing, The Fly, and I'm sure several other I can't think of right now.

Not really.  I've had many favorites over the years but I watch them so many times I get rather bored with them, and then new favorites come along.

Do you have a LEAST favorite horror film, that you hate?
Death Tunnel was putrid.  And Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid was so predictable and cliched it actually made me mad.

Out of the iconic 80s Slasher killers, (Freddy, Michael, Jason, etc.) Who is your favorite?
Jason is my man.  I really like and/or love just about every movie in that series except for Jason Goes To Hell.

Are you a fan of the new 'Found Footage' breed of horror films?
I've seen several of them that were actually pretty good.

Are you more a fan of outdated horror or modern?
Both.  I enjoy a ton of old classic stuff and I also like a lot of the direct-to-video stuff that's come out over the last 25 years.

What films do you watch on the Halloween Holiday each year?
On Halloween night I used to be Sorority House Massacre 2 and Slumber Party Massacre, but now it's whatever I'm in the mood for.  During October though I just watch a ton of horror movies.  Old, new, classic, low budget trash, and everything in between.

What is your favorite Horror film Chase scene?
Probably the end of The Terminator.  That was pure awesomeness!

Great survey, that was fun!

What is your favorite decade of horror and why?
The 1990s because it saw the re-emergence of true horror movies as opposed to the cop-out, low-brow slasher genre that dominated the 1980s. (Not that I was ever allowed to actually see those back then.)

What is the most memorable horror films that made an impact on you as a child?
I loved The Haunting which I saw with my Uncle Pat when I was about seven. You know, at the same age, though, The Wizard of Oz frightened me. Figure that out.

Do you prefer practical special effects, CGI, or both?
Sometimes a film is best leaving both out but special effects seem more solid than CGI.

What is your favorite classic/gothic horror Icon?
Edgar Allan Poe.

What is your favorite Horror Film Series?
I don’t have one. I think the strongest horror films are the stand-alone ones.

What is your least favorite kind of Horror creature, and why?
I have never found zombies interesting.

What is the most memorable horror film you saw at the theater or drive-ins?
I saw The Sixth Sense all alone in an empty theater and was actually able to be amazed at its big reveal.

If you had to choose between Slasher, Supernatural, Fantasy, or Science Fiction Horror- What
Science Fiction.

What is your favorite Horror Comedy?
I agree with Beetlejuice in that every time I see The Exorcist it just keeps getting funnier….

Which horror film do you ONLY like the first one, but HATE the sequels?
The Ring.

Generally, What type of horror do you prefer?
The sort that confronts the psychologically unexplainable that lingers around the corners of daily life can be profoundly scary in ways that films with buckets of blood and a body count rivaling a prostitute’s can never be. A film I saw in France a few years back called A l’aventure that appeared to be about one thing and right before the end suddenly shifted into the supernatural in such a way that it caught me off guard and ended up being one of the most disturbing movies I’ve ever seen. I stayed up half the night after watching it.

Is there any Remakes that you actually like?
I respected that The Shining miniseries from about 1997 tried to stay true to the book.

Has a horror film ever really scared you? if so, which film?
I have to admit Paranormal Activity gave me a restless night.

Which Horror Anthology TV series' are your favorite?
Can’t help but have fond memories of Tales from the Darkside.

Do you have a favorite Horror Film? If so, which one and why?
The Haunting. (See above.)

Do you have a LEAST favorite horror film, that you hate?
I thought Insidious was a predicable and clichéd waste of time.

Out of the iconic 80s Slasher killers, (Freddy, Michael, Jason, etc.) Who is your favorite?
Hate them all. No interest in that at all. Torture porn masquerading as something else. A low point in the industry.

Are you a fan of the new 'Found Footage' breed of horror films?
Yes.

Are you more a fan of outdated horror or modern?
Outdated.

What films do you watch on the Halloween Holiday each year?
None every year as a tradition sort of thing, but one of the most disturbing movies I ever saw I did first catch around Halloween. It’s called The Magdalene Sisters, and it’s not supernatural but it’s certainly absolutely horrific.

What is your favorite Horror film Chase scene?
Gotta admire Jack Torrance’s type-A determination in chasing his kid through that maze in The Shining.

What is your favorite decade of horror and why?

1930s, narrowly over the 1920s. Almost everything that is a cliche now was new and fresh then.

What is the most memorable horror films that made an impact on you as a child?

Probably THE SHINING.

Do you prefer practical special effects, CGI, or both?

Practical.

What is your favorite classic/gothic horror Icon?

Dracula.

What is your favorite Horror Film Series?

Universal's FRANKENSTEIN.

What is your least favorite kind of Horror creature, and why?

If slashers/serial killers/knife wielding maniacs count as "creatures," then them, because they're too close to reality and not fun.

What is the most memorable horror film you saw at the theater or drive-ins?

Probably THE SHINING.

If you had to choose between Slasher, Supernatural, Fantasy, or Science Fiction Horror- What

Supernatural.

What is your favorite Horror Comedy?

YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN for more comedy, EVIL DEAD 2 for more horror. THE BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN for a very subtle comedy.

Which horror film do you ONLY like the first one, but HATE the sequels?

Supernatural/weird.

Is there any Remakes that you actually like?

Someone else mentioned THE BLOB, which is one of the few that's better than the original.

Has a horror film ever really scared you? if so, which film?

I honestly can't remember ever being really scared by a horror film. My parents tell me that BAMBI terrified me as a kid, though.

Which Horror Anthology TV series' are your favorite?

"The Twilight Zone," I guess---not a huge fan of TV horror anthologies.

Do you have a favorite Horror Film? If so, which one and why?

Toss up between THE BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN and THE SHINING. BoF for its taste and control, THE SHINING for its crazy audacity. (Interesting that Claws mentions ERASERHEAD. Although I consider it one of my top 10 movies of all time, I don't consider it "horror").

Do you have a LEAST favorite horror film, that you hate?

So many boring horror films, too many to list or to distinguish one as the worst.

Out of the iconic 80s Slasher killers, (Freddy, Michael, Jason, etc.) Who is your favorite?

Freddy Kruger.

Are you a fan of the new 'Found Footage' breed of horror films?

No, but I don't hate them.

Are you more a fan of outdated horror or modern?

"Outdated."

What films do you watch on the Halloween Holiday each year?

I prefer classical Universal monsters if I have a choice.

What is your favorite Horror film Chase scene?

Can't really think of one. Claws' suggestion of TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE is worthwhile.

Thanks so much for the responses, I'm finding it very interesting to see all of the different kind of answers! I think horror as a genre has one of the most prominent kinds of audience ever.  I am going to repost my own responses with some of my answers tweaked, and added to, simply because I've been reminded and inspired to say more in my answers. Also, If I could I'd add even more questions, maybe if I make another survey thread some time. Was a fun read. Look forward to reading more responses as they come too. :)

What is your favorite decade of horror and why?
For me, the 80s. Especially 1985-1989. Because it was cheesy, fantastical, over the top fun in a way that you don't see anymore or as much.

What is the most memorable horror films that made an impact on you as a child?
PumpkinHead, Troll, Night of the Creeps, The Gate, CandyMan, House,
Saw them when I was younger than 10 years old, so my child mindset saw them as EPIC.

Do you prefer practical special effects, CGI, or both?
Practical for horror. But I am slowly becoming accepting to CGI when it comes to other kinds of films, like say, the Godzilla film thats coming out soon, or any other giant monster film. I can see how cgi is the only way to go in *some* cases. but with horror, blood, guts, makeup, small monster, etc. Practical has more respect and authenticity to me.

What is your favorite classic/gothic horror Icon?
Frankenstein

What is your favorite Horror Film Series?
Alien, Phantasm, Chucky, Maniac Cop, The Fly, Evil Dead,

What is your least favorite kind of Horror creature, and why?
Slasher Serial Killers. Just not fantastical enough for me.
Vampires. I'm not in to the blood-lust thing.
Demons & Demon possession, being that I'm not religious.

What is the most memorable horror film you saw at the theater or drive-ins?
Not sure.

If you had to choose between Slasher, Supernatural, Fantasy, or Science Fiction Horror- What would you choose?
Science Fiction Horror, and Fantasy Horror.

What is your favorite Horror Comedy?
Dead Alive/BrainDead, Night of the Creeps, FrankenHooker, House,

Which horror film do you ONLY like the first one, but HATE the sequels?
PumpkinHead, Ginger Snaps, CandyMan, X-Tro,

Generally, What type of horror do you prefer?
Horror that is cheesy and fun, rather than realistic, or upsetting.

Is there any Remakes that you actually like?
1988's The Blob, 70s Invasion of the Body-Snatchers, The Fly, The Thing,

Has a horror film ever really scared you? if so, which film?
As a child I was scared by the madness of the film 'CandyMan'.
As an adult I was creepd out by the 1978 Australian film 'Long Weekend'
The 70s spanish short film 'La Cabina'
La Cabina (The Phone Box) 1972 {English Subtitles} Spain Small | Large

Also a short film called 'Still Life;
Still Life - Short movie, very shocking but very clever Small | Large

The Twilight Zone (50s), and Tales from the Darkside.

Baffled with Leonard Nimoy, Crowhaven Farm with Hope Lange and Horror Express. They still scare me.

Practical if possible: CGI just looks too fake for me.

Either Pinhead or Frederick Krueger.

Don’t really have one.

The one who kills for no reason.

Sci-fi horror, like Event Horizon.

Jans Rautenbach’s Jannie Totsiens.

What is your favorite decade of horror and why?

50s - 60s. The golden decade for "sciency" creature movies.

Usually practical.

Frankenstein.

Do you have a LEAST favorite horror film, that you hate?

Not one that I particularily dislike.

Out of the iconic 80s Slasher killers, (Freddy, Michael, Jason, etc.) Who is your favorite?

I'd say Poltergeist, Salem's Lot, The Brides of Dracula, the 70s version of Dracula, The Shining and Predator ranks very highly for me but I recall being scared by non-horror films like sequences in Superman III and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. [After rereading others responses, I recall also being scared by Jaws and The Wizard of Oz - mainly the flying monkeys)

Do you prefer practical special effects, CGI, or both?

Definitely practical FX, I'm a huge fan of stuff like stop-motion, suitmation, claymation, puppetry, make-up, etc. I've rarely liked CGI to be honest unless combined with practical FX.

Science Fiction Horror, Atmospheric Gothic Horror with eerie black and white cinemaotagrophy, and Psychological Horror

Is there any Remakes that you actually like?

Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Fly, The Omega Man, The Blob, Invaders From Mars, and The Thing. Not many made after the 1980s.

Has a horror film ever really scared you? if so, which film?

Ringu first time I watched it. The Ring was pretty effective too. As a kid, lots did. I named them above.

Which Horror Anthology TV series' are your favorite?

The Twilight Zone, The Outer Limits, Boris Karloff's Thriller

Do you have a favorite Horror Film? If so, which one and why?

It's hard to pick just one as there's been so many great films but it would probably be Halloween (1978).

Do you have a LEAST favorite horror film, that you hate?

Probably Rob Zombie remake of Halloween

Out of the iconic 80s Slasher killers, (Freddy, Michael, Jason, etc.) Who is your favorite?

Michael Myers

Are you a fan of the new 'Found Footage' breed of horror films?

I've liked a few but yeah, it's way overdone these days.

Are you more a fan of outdated horror or modern?

Outdated although I wouldn't call it that.

What films do you watch on the Halloween Holiday each year?

Usually Halloween (1978), often the Ghostbusters films and The Haunting (1963)

What is your favorite decade of horror and why?
1930s, because it's got a ton of great films in it that have solid stories/morality plays and show beautiful, atmospheric b&w cinematography.

What is the most memorable horror films that made an impact on you as a child?
Frankenstein, Rodan, are a couple that come to mind --'76 King Kong due to Jessica Lange and being 11 years old.  :)

Do you prefer practical special effects, CGI, or both?
Practical.  It's an actual object being photographed.

What is your favorite classic/gothic horror Icon?
Frankenstein

What is your least favorite kind of Horror creature, and why?
Exorcist rip-offs and possession type movies.

What is the most memorable horror film you saw at the theater or drive-ins?
Maybe Food of the Gods at the d-i.

If you had to choose between Slasher, Supernatural, Fantasy, or Science Fiction Horror-
Supernatural

What is your favorite Horror Comedy?
I see some good choices above -- I loved Troll 2, but Young Frankenstein is another.

Generally, What type of horror do you prefer?
Classic monster movies

Is there any Remakes that you actually like?
Can't think of any right now...

Has a horror film ever really scared you? if so, which film?
Exorcist, The Haunting had its moments...

Do you have a favorite Horror Film? If so, which one and why?
I usually list Frankenstein (1931) -- saw it as a kid and it made a big impression on me.  James Whale was the most talented and stylish director of that era.

Do you have a LEAST favorite horror film, that you hate?
I'll have to think about it.

Out of the iconic 80s Slasher killers, (Freddy, Michael, Jason, etc.) Who is your favorite?
I guess Freddy, though those aren't my thing.

Are you a fan of the new 'Found Footage' breed of horror films?
Not so much.  Cannibal Holocaust did it well, with inventiveness, a long time ago.

Are you more a fan of outdated horror or modern?
I would call it "classic" rather than outdated -- that's my fandom!

What films do you watch on the Halloween Holiday each year?
I like to put on some William Castle like House on Haunted Hill or The Tingler, maybe Spider Baby and some old Kolchak episodes.

Loving all of the responses and different preferences you of you folks. You're making me gather a small list of films that I haven't seen yet. As for my mention of "outdated" horror, I don't mean any disrespect by calling it that. Hell, I usually say classic myself and don't judge a film by it's age. If anything I prefer old films to new. but, yeah. I guess I meant it in the way to ask if you are the type who closely follows every new release, or the type to swim backwards in time and relish in the history of horror cinema. :)
