...what would it be?

I have a few ideas:

Ice like to see one based on the true story of the civil war ironclad CSA Albemarle. The story of tat ship was an important part of the civil war and also an incredible true story from start to finish. In many ways the albemarle was the Bismarck of the civil war.

A movie should be made about the Russian women pilots known as the night witches who waged a heroic and under appreciated air war against the Nazis. Their stories deserve to be remembered.

Lastly, ice like to see a faithful adaptation of "War of the worlds" made as close to the novel as possible.

The Elsa Joubert war novel Ons Wag Op Die Kaptein [We Await The Captain: also published in English as To Die At Sunset] has haunted me for years: I would like to film it.  Smile

Seconded on the War of the Worlds, but not so close to the novel as, frankly, it's a bit cold and from what I remember it is more structured like a diary of events. I'd change things up and if made nowadays you could make it an interesting commentary on refugees fleeing the terrors of war which would be an interesting take. Something about the imagery of unstoppable war machines slowly ambling after seething masses of people could make for a pretty powerful movie methinks...

Incidentally I never heard of the Night Witches, but after your mention I found this short animated film which is pretty interesting:

I discovered the story of Lieutenant Gunther von Pluschow while researching my Master's Thesis back in 1992.  He was a German aviator in the colony of Tsingtao in China during World War I.  His daring escape from the colony as it fell to the Japanese, and the subsequent odyssey that took him across the Pacific and the USA, to Gibraltar, and then his escape from a British POW camp in Scotland - the ONLY German POW to escape from the British Isles in either World War - would make a fantastic story!

Wasn't there a 6 hour accurate version of War of the Worlds made a few years ago?

I'm cheap; judging from the displays at the state fair last year you can make a decent WWI trench set with $100 worth of scrap wood, so I'd probably make a WWI movie. Not sure of the plot. It should also feature aerial combat footage, most likely stock footage, because biplanes are cool.

Perhaps a series of Vignettes about people in war? Just moments which hit an emotion. Perhaps include a bit on the brief Christmas truce?
