300: Rise Of An Empire had to rely on going directly against everything that was established in the first movie.

I wholeheartedly agree with EXORCIST II, GREASE 2 and CADDYSHACK II (they are all on my worst mainstream movies of all time list). Here are a few for consideration:

* THE STING II
* DEATH WISH 3
* ROCKY IV
* JAWS 3-D
* MORE AMERICAN GRAFFITI

Where's THE PHANTOM MENACE??

I disagree about EXORCIST II: THE HERETIC. While it's not technically a "good" movie, it is a hell of a lot of fun.

I'd also add HIGHLANDER II: THE QUICKENING.

While KING KONG (1976) wasn't all that great, it's still miles above KING KONG LIVES (1986).

THE RING II was an insult to a brilliant film.

Jaws 3-D was a stink burger, but it looks like the Royal Shakespeare Company compared to Jaws: The Revenge

Some others off the top of my head:
C.H.U.D. II: Bud the Chud
Poltergeist III
Pretty much any Amityville movie after "II"

Any of Franco's Orloff films after the AWFUL DR. ORLOFF are awful!
the SATANIC RITES OF DRACULA was a low point in Chris Lee's Dracula series.
Most of the FRIDAY the 13th movies after 3. JASON TAKES MANHATTAN being the lowest of them.
The HALLOWEEN movies besides the first and III.

the AIRPORT movies after the 1st one.
The sequel to Wes Craven's original the HILL HAVE EYES is bad. The dog has a flashback!  Buggedout
I didn't care for 2010 or the FRENCH CONNECTION II.
the 2 sequels (well, one was a prequel) to DUMB AND DUMBER.
