I want to say Windsor McKay, but I'm not sure he worked on any comic books, just strips & animation.

Gogos-I wouldn't call him a comic book artist-more of a painter....
I reckon comic strips count-so yeah-Windsor McKay.

One of my favorites is Ethan Van Sciver.  His run on Green Lantern with Geoff Jones are some of my favorite superhero comics of recent years.

No offense- all great artists- (except I'm not familiar with the bottom 3), but, technically, they're newspaper comic strip artists.
When it comes to newspaper strip artists, I lean towards Chester Gould's Dick Tracy.

I quite like Jean Giraud aka Moebius, the variety of styles and mediums that he used was incredible.
