I liked the first half of WOLF...but the second half turned into a stupid remake of the WEREWOLF OF LONDON (1935). And why have Mike Nichols of all people, do a horror movie???  Question
It reminded me like when DeNiro played Frankenstein in Scorsese's movie. Same with Coppola's Dracula movie. Pretty glossy- but-bah. Goldman is no Lugosi, Lee, or even Carradine. He is a great actor...but that was real miscast.

At least POPEYE was cast well...but they just should have left out the music and romance and just done it pure slapstick.

Shelly was in Altman's POPEYE- Jack was in Nichol's WOLF, and both were in Kubrick's the SHINING!

I wonder if someone like Shelly Duvall would be able to make a successful acting career nowadays? It would be a shame if she couldn't.

Given what Popeye was adapting, and when it was made,it did a decent enough job.  If they had made it an animated movie, then maybe they could have done more with the characters ,setting, etc...

But as it stands, its fine.

SHELLEY DUVALL is in a couple of '70s movies with memorable parts that I like : ANNIE HALL and NASHVILLE... ROBERT ALTMAN had her in a few of his films.

It was a good kids movie for 1980; I remember watching it in the theater when I was 6 years old. It was Robin Williams' first starring role in a film and I thought he carried the movie rather well. I tried watching it again not too long ago and realized that what was good in 1980 isn't always so good nowadays. Of course, I also saw The Shining (1980) when it first came out in theaters too, so I know that's not a general rule of thumb.

Imagine if Stanley Kubrick had directed Popeye (1980)...

I remember watching this in theaters in 1980 with my mother.  I had to nudge her awake half way through as she was snoring.

Heck, I had to wake myself up during some bits.   I honestly do not know how or why this movie made ANY profit as I recall almost everyone I know who saw it said it stank way back then.

This is also a pure co-incidence, my roommate had suggested we watch it tonight (before logged on)   I'm watching it again...on purpose.  Help me!
