Apparantly some of those pesky scientists have been taking DNA swabs from New York underground and found some interesting results.
Initial database searches with subway DNA, for instance, turned up false matches to the Tasmanian devil, the Himalayan yak and the Mediterranean fruit fly—all creatures highly unlikely to be found in a New York transit system.
Were they really false matches or is there something else going on down there...
For anyone who is interested in reading about the science behind it all, here are a couple of links. Don't go panicking about the 50% unknown species bits though, that most likely is just creatures we know about but haven't sequenced their DNA yet.
