I'm not sure what they used to come up with this list; to me it looks like a random list of movies with dogs in them; the kind of thing MSN could've written with an office poll, or by going to Rotten Tomatoes & searching "Dog Movies," organized by critics' scores.

Anything you might've included that they left out? Anything you agree with?

I'm 99.9% certain that's how they made this list. Anyway, not a big fan of dog movies; they get kind of sappy. The Disney ones are good; A BOY AND HIS DOG is good; WHITE GOD is good (but kind of rough going). Can't think of any others at the moment.

Wasn't there a bad 70s made-for-TV movie called THE HOUND FROM HELL?

Can we count The Thing?

The dogs were prominent until The Thing destroyed them.

When dogs serve as a crucial plot point for the film, then by all means, that qualifies it as a dog movie.

I actually think of LASSIE COME HOME (1943) or old Rin Tin Tin movies.

Small | Large

Sappy movie. But I watched the sappy TV show all the time in the 60's, so- it's syrupy s**t.

SOUNDER (1972) is a film named for the dog, a very important symbol in the film, but hardly about the dog.  The film title has a different meaning once you listen to it, there's not a lot of music, but there is the mesmerizing sound of rural places... the film is SOUNDER.  Sounder sounding alarm, certainly attention... hearing.
